A man died after being struck by a Tesla while standing behind his disabled pickup truck on State Route 14 in Acton, Los Angeles County, on Monday night, August 10, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol Newhall-area Office, officers received a report around 10:56 p.m. of a two-vehicle collision and a person in the southbound lanes of State Route 14, south of Ward Road.
CHP officers and Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel responded and found a white Ford pickup truck and a red Tesla sedan blocking lanes.
Initial reports indicated that the Ford pickup ran out of gas and stopped in the No. 3 lane. CHP said the pickup driver exited the vehicle and was standing behind it when the Tesla struck both the man and his truck.
The pickup driver was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Authorities have not released his identity pending notification of next of kin.
The Tesla driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. CHP said alcohol or drugs did not appear to be factors in the collision.
