67-year-old woman hit and killed while stopped on the side of Vacaville road

(FOX40.COM) — A 67-year-old woman is dead after stopping on the side of the road in Vacaville, exiting her car and getting hit by a passing vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP said officers responded to reports of a person hit by a car around 8:41 p.m. Monday on Pleasant Valley Road near Sunny Hills Lane.

Officers arrived to find a woman in the roadway and began life-saving measures. Paramedics with the Vacaville Fire Department pronounced the woman dead around 8:53 p.m.

The investigation determined that a 67-year-old woman driving a Honda northbound on Pleasant Valley Road pulled onto the right shoulder for a reason that remains under investigation.

According to CHP, she turned on the hazard lights, exited the Honda and crossed to the west side of the roadway. For an unknown reason, the woman entered or remained within the southbound lane of travel.

The woman was hit by a 42-year-old man driving a Mitsubishi southbound on Pleasant Valley Road with his wife and son as passengers.

The driver of the Mitsubishi immediately called law enforcement and cooperated throughout the investigation. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors.

The exact cause of the crash is under investigation.
