Coroner identifies construction worker hit, killed by vehicle in Oconee County

OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Oconee County Coroner’s Office reports it was called to a crash on Highway 28 on Friday.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said a 2012 Chevrolet pickup, traveling west on SC 28 around 2 p.m., hit the back of a 2014 Hyundai Elantra, which was stopped. The pickup then went off the right side of the road and hit a construction traffic flagger near Yellow Branch Falls.

The coroner’s office identified the victim as 65-year-old Douglas “Doug” Edwards of Greenville.

Edwards died at the scene from blunt force trauma injuries. His death was ruled accidental, according to the coroner’s office.

The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
