Two people were critically injured after a passenger vehicle crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer on Interstate 20 near Abilene, Texas, on Monday morning, August 10, 2026. First responders were called to the crash around 8:30 a.m. on westbound I-20 near Exit 278.
According to early reports, the passenger vehicle struck the rear of the tractor-trailer. Both people inside the passenger vehicle suffered serious injuries. The driver, who is from Abilene, had to be extricated from the vehicle by fire personnel before being flown by helicopter to Hendrick Medical Center. The passenger, who is from Merkel, was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
The cause of the crash has not yet been fully reported.
