(NewsNation) — The Tennessee Highway Patrol has shared some jarring video of the moment a trooper’s patrol car was slammed from behind by a careless motorist on an interstate shoulder.
The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon along Interstate 65 in the Nashville area as the officer was parked behind a pulled-over vehicle. The crash was recorded on a front-facing dashboard camera and the trooper’s body camera.
Both video sources show the cruiser propelled into the vehicle in front. The car that struck the police cruiser then comes into view, facing the wrong direction.
The officer’s bodycam is thrown onto the floor from the impact, but the trooper can be heard calling for a “10-46,” or assistance for a disabled vehicle.
“When you see flashing lights ahead, move over when it is safe to do so. If you cannot move over, slow down and proceed with caution,” the state police agency said in the post.
The driver who rear-ended the police cruiser, 40-year-old Corina McDaniel, was cited for a number of violations, including DUI and vehicular assault, according to a preliminary report. The trooper and driver of the vehicle he was pushed into were injured but wearing seatbelts, the report said.
