ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — One person is dead after a crash in Elizabeth City on Friday morning.
Officers responded to the area of Halstead Boulevard Extension at Mt. Everest Drive for the report of a motor vehicle collision.
Upon arrival, officers determined the accident involved an 18-wheeler hauling equipment, which had stopped to unload. While the tractor-trailer was stopped, a 2017 Ford Explorer struck the rear of the detached trailer.
The driver of the Ford Explorer sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at approximately 9:23 a.m. by Pasquotank County EMS.
Police say this remains an active and ongoing investigation and ask anyone with information about the incident to contact the Elizabeth City Police Department.
