Driver hit, killed on I-485 in Charlotte after getting out of crashed box truck

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A car hit and killed a box truck driver who had stepped out of their crashed vehicle on I-485 in west Charlotte Tuesday morning.

The deadly collision happened around 4 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 1, along the highway’s outer loop near West Boulevard.

Troopers said a box truck ran off the road and hit a concrete utility access. The driver got out and was standing in the roadway when a passing Toyota reportedly hit and killed them.

The Toyota driver pulled over onto the left shoulder, according to state troopers.

No charges had been filed, as of Wednesday morning. Authorities said they are withholding the victim’s identity pending family notification.
