Driver killed in I-15 crash in Rancho Bernardo

A 70-year-old driver died after trying to evade a disabled vehicle and hitting a center divide on southbound Interstate 15 in Rancho Bernardo early Monday, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

Just before 8 a.m., a Honda sedan collided with a large object on the I-15, north of West Bernardo Drive and blocking a right lane, CHP Officer Issam Wahhab said. The driver of a Toyota swerved to the right, lost control, then veered to the left and struck the center divide, he said.

Paramedics took the Toyota driver to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Wahhab said.

Alcohol wasn’t considered a factor in the crash. No other injuries were reported.
