A man was killed early Wednesday morning after he was struck by a car while standing outside a vehicle stopped on the emergency shoulder of Florida’s Turnpike in southwest Miami-Dade County.
The September 16, 2026 crash happened in the southbound lanes of the Turnpike near Southwest 216th Street, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP reported that a Honda Civic was traveling south when it struck the man, who was standing outside his vehicle on the right emergency shoulder.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not publicly identified him or explained why his vehicle was stopped on the shoulder.
All southbound lanes of the Turnpike were temporarily closed following the fatal collision and reopened at approximately 6:30 a.m.
