A man who left his disabled truck and ran across a freeway was killed after being hit by a car and subsequently run over in Corona on Friday night, authorities say.
According to information relayed to KTLA from the California Highway Patrol, dispatch at the Riverside Area station received a call regarding a stalled vehicle blocking lanes on the eastbound 91 Freeway, just east of the 15 Freeway.
The call came in at 10:28 p.m., a CHP spokesperson said.
Officers rushed to the scene and, based on preliminary findings, determined that a Dodge Ram 1500 became disabled in the #2 lane of the FasTrak lanes. The driver of the Dodge, only identified by CHP as an adult male, then exited his vehicle and “ran into the #1 lane of the main [freeway lanes]” before being hit by a Honda HRV.
After the collision, the victim was run over by another car – a Honda Civic – the CHP spokesperson said.
“All parties remained at the scene and no intoxication was suspected of the drivers,” the spokesperson added. “No prosecution is suspected at this time.”
The sobriety of the pedestrian was not immediately determined by the coroner’s office.
No further information was released right away.
