Pedestrian dies after being hit by 2 semis on US 301 in Alachua County

A 37-year-old St. Petersburg man died after being struck by two semi-trucks on U.S. 301 in Alachua County late Sept. 11 after exiting a vehicle involved in a crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.Here’s what we know:

Sept. 11 at about 11:54 p.m.

Where did the crash happen?

On U.S. 301 near Southeast 11th Avenue.

According to the report, the St. Petersburg man was involved in a single-vehicle crash on northbound U.S. 301. He exited his vehicle, which was on the east grassy shoulder, and walked into the roadway, where he was struck by a semi-truck driven by a 46-year-old man from Altoona, Pennsylvania. The pedestrian was then struck by a second semi-truck driven by a 29-year-old Jacksonville man. The St. Petersburg man was pronounced dead at 12:01 a.m. Sept. 12. Neither truck driver was injured.
