GARY, Ind — A truck driver was seriously injured Tuesday morning in a crash involving two semi-tractor-trailers in northwest Indiana.
According to Indiana State Police, it happened around 3:30 a.m. Sept. 8 in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80/94 at the exit ramp to Burr Street.
A preliminary investigation indicates a truck loaded with Amazon packages was parked on a berm between the ramp and highway lanes and the driver was reported to be standing outside the truck and urinating, a spokesperson said. Another semi sideswiped the parked truck, causing the driver to be ejected. He was taken to a hospital in serious condition, authorities said.
The driver of the parked truck was not injured. Highway traffic was restricted for about eight hours after the collision.
ISP said an investigation into the crash is underway and that charges are possible when the report is complete.
