A 69-year-old man was killed in a traffic accident 40 miles south of Des Moines, near New Virginia on Friday evening.
Steven Kohli, of Iowa City, was on the side of the road checking damage to a car he was traveling in that had just hit a deer when another car hit him, the Iowa State Patrol said.
Both cars were traveling south on Interstate 35. No other injuries were reported.
According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, there have been 22 pedestrian deaths this year.
