ORLANDO, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is searching for a driver accused of a deadly hit-and-run crash in Orange County.
Troopers said a 2003 Honda Accord was traveling on Silver Star Road, approaching Le Harvey Boulevard in the center lane.
As the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Silver Star Road, a pedestrian stepped into the roadway, directly into the vehicle’s path. As a result, the vehicle struck the pedestrian.
Troopers said the driver immediately stepped out of the vehicle and began assisting the pedestrian.
That’s when a second vehicle failed to stop and struck both of them.
Residents of a small apartment complex on Silver Star Road, near the Stag Horn Villas Apartments, are familiar with tragedy on the busy street.
“My husband said what’s going on out there and I said it’s Silver Star, what’s not going on here you know,” a resident said.
Witnesses at the scene told troopers they saw the second driver step out of his vehicle to check on the damage, but eventually reentered and fled the scene.
“Yeah that not a human, you know when things like happen and you don’t stop, the driver should stop,” a witness said.
Witnesses described the vehicle involved as a blue Chevy Malibu, driven by an adult Black male wearing a black hoodie.
The vehicle should have lower front-end damage and damage to the driver’s side mirror, according to troopers.
The driver of the Honda Accord sustained minor injuries. However, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at a hospital.
