Car hits stopped SUV in Harpswell, killing pedestrian
HARPSWELL, Maine — A car crash in Harpswell left a 71-year-old pedestrian dead Wednesday afternoon. A 911 caller reported a car collision on Harpswell Islands Road near the Tower Hill Road intersection around 2:49 p.m. to the Cumberland Sheriff’s Office, according to its news release. An initial investigation found a 41-year-old man was traveling north in a Chevrolet Silverado when it crossed the centerline and struck an empty BMW X3 SUV, deputies said.

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) — Following a series of crashes involving 30 vehicles, the Indiana Toll Road has been shut down in Elkhart, Indiana. Just before 4 p.m. on Wednesday, the Indiana State Police responded to a three-vehicle crash. Upon arrival, it was evident that the initial crash had led to multiple crashes involving a total of 30 different vehicles. Semis, as well as passenger vehicles, blocked the eastbound lanes and the center median near the 94-mile marker, just two miles east of Elkhart, Indiana.

A 95-year-old man died and three others were injured after a “serious” crash in Illinois. The crash occurred around 3:15 p.m. local time on Tuesday, Jan. 13, at the intersection of Lake Cook Road and Quentin Road in Deer Park, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO). Authorities were first alerted to a disabled vehicle at the intersection and were told a short time later that “a serious traffic crash” had occurred at the same location.

A 54-year-old man was struck and killed by a vehicle on the eastbound Walt Whitman Bridge early Sunday morning after exiting his own disabled car, officials said. The motorist was standing in front of his car in the eastbound far right lane about 3 a.m. A second vehicle struck the disabled vehicle and then him, according to the Delaware River Port Authority. Emergency workers pronounced the Camden resident dead at the scene on the New Jersey side of the bridge, which links Philadelphia to Gloucester City.

Bannock County, ID — January 13, 2026, one person was killed in a truck accident just before 4 a.m. on U.S. Highway 30 near Pocatello. Authorities said a Mercury Grand Marquis crashed into the trailer that had become disconnected from an eastbound 2024 Freightliner semi-truck and settled in the westbound lanes. The Mercury driver, a 52-year-old man whose name has not been made public yet, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to authorities.

HOUSTON — A deadly overnight crash on the Katy Freeway is under investigation after police say a tow truck struck a disabled vehicle, killing the driver. The crash happened around 11:45 p.m. Monday in the westbound lanes of the Katy Freeway, near Studemont, according to Houston police. Investigators say a red Toyota Camry was disabled in a moving lane of traffic with its hazard lights activated when it was hit from behind by a black Dodge Ram 3500 tow truck.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — A man who was trying to direct traffic around a disabled vehicle was hit by a car and killed Monday evening. On Tuesday, Cumberland County Coroner Charley Hall identified the victim as Christopher Alan Righi, 37, of Newville. He was struck around 5:41 p.m. in the 300 block of Green Spring Road in North Newton Township. Righi was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, and his cause of death was found to be multiple traumatic injuries.

A fire department truck from Ann Arbor, Michigan, was among the vehicles damaged during a multi-vehicle crash Sunday morning. The Ann Arbor Fire Department said its Engine 1-3, assigned to Veterans Park, was on scene of the crash on Jackson Road at the westbound exit from Interstate 94. At the time, the roads were covered with ice and snow. Engine 1-3 was parked on Jackson Road, with emergency lights activated, while the crews were checking on those involved in the initial crash.
