Mechanic dies after big rig driver falls asleep, slams into him on I-5 in San Joaquin County
ACAMPO, Calif. — A mechanic died Tuesday morning after a big rig driver who fell asleep behind the wheel slammed into him on Interstate 5 in San Joaquin County, officials said. According to the California Highway Patrol Stockton division, the mechanic was on the right-hand shoulder of the freeway at Peltier Road, underneath a disabled big rig he was trying to fix. Pennsylvania State Police at Belfast said they investigated an accident on I-78 in Lower Saucon Township last month that occurred when a driver stopped in the middle of the highway for an unknown reason. According to a May 3 accident report, the crash happened April 8 at mile marker 69.9 on the Rt. 33 south ramp to I-78 west. Police said that shortly before 8 a.m., the driver of an unidentified vehicle who was westbound in the ramp’s left lane stopped in the middle of the lane for “an unknown reason.

VAN BUREN — A 72-year-old Van Buren woman was found safe Saturday in the rugged White Rock Mountain area in northwestern Franklin County, five days after she went missing. “She is OK and is receiving medical treatment at a local hospital,” Lt. Jay Baker, public information officer for the Van Buren Police Department, said Monday. The department issued an alert Wednesday after Sharon Brasher was reported missing by family members. She was last seen the night of April 27 and was believed to be driving a 2014 Jeep Cherokee, police reported.

CAMPBELL COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Tennessee Highway Patrol said two people died in a crash that had I-75 South shut down for much of Saturday in Campbell County near the state line. According to THP’s preliminary report, a GMC pickup truck was traveling southbound near mile marker 161 Saturday morning when it hit the back of a tractor-trailer that was parked on the right shoulder. The driver, 21-year-old Jesus Eduardo Silva, and passenger, 20-year-old Denise Andrade, both of Georgia, died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, THP said.
