2 Fatally Struck on Beltway After Getting Out of Car in Middle Lane
Two men died Thursday night after they were hit by two vehicles after getting out of their car on the Capital Beltway in Fairfax County, Virginia. Virginia State Police were called to the crash in the westbound lanes of Interstate 495 near Exit 176 (Telegraph Road) shortly after 11 p.m. Police believe the victims’ Toyota Corolla stopped in the center lane, and the driver and passenger got out. It’s not clear why their car stopped, but police say that moments later, a Ford Ranger struck the two people and their car.

A woman crashed into a Texas ravine, where she became trapped for about two days, according to local reports. She lost consciousness for an undetermined amount of time, authorities said, but after about 40 hours, she managed to climb from the wreckage and out of the ditch, KTBC reported. Upon escaping the crash, “about 16 feet into a creek bed,” she flagged down a driver passing by, KXAN reported. That driver called 911 on Saturday, May 7.

HARRIS COUNTY – A Harris County Sheriff’s deputy has died after being involved in a crash with an 18-wheeler on SH-249 Wednesday afternoon, officials say. HCSO Sheriff Ed Gonzalez identified the deputy as 27-year-old Harris County native Robert Adam Howard. Howard was a Cypress Woods High School graduate. Gonzalez said the deputy was a member of the HCSO’s Gang Unit and started at the sheriff’s office two years ago. He was also a husband and the father of a 2-year-old daughter and a 5-year-old son.

North Augusta, SC (WJBF) – One person is dead following an accident early this morning just off Interstate 20 east bound in Aiken County. It happened at the Exit 1 off ramp. According to Lt. Junior Johnson with North Augusta Public Safety, three vehicles were involved. Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables has identified the victim as 43-year-old Clifton L. O’Bryan of Augusta. The coroner states that a Dodge Truck struck a concrete barricade on the exit ramp just before 7 a.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas — A Houston man who had been missing a week was found dead Monday in Walker County. On Monday, Texas DPS confirmed that Henry Schelsteder, 69, was found in a wrecked car along I-45 between mile marker 127 and 128. Officials believe he may have had a medical emergency. Schelsteder had last been heard from on Monday, May 2, near Madisonville. He had reportedly been on his way to Dallas to make a delivery.

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — A Loxley man died after he was part of a crash that included three vehicles and two pedestrians on Saturday, May 7, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. James C. Smith, 62, was struck and killed when a 2013 Kia Soul hit him in Spanish Fort. According to officials, the Soul was disabled in the roadway and its driver, McKenzie L. Meehan, 24, was standing in the nearby median on I-10 at about midnight in Baldwin County near the 40-mile marker.

SAGUACHE COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - A pedestrian is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after reportedly getting hit by a vehicle. The incident happened on Friday around 2:40 a.m. on Saguache County Road 49.5 just south of Saguache County Road B. Colorado State Patrol say a blue 1995 Chevrolet 1500 Pickup was heading south on Saguache County Road 49.5 approaching a vehcile that was stopped on the right shoulder. A pedestrian was reportedly near the center of the road, next to the stopped vehicle.

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A woman from Lake Worth was killed Thursday night on I-95 in Palm Beach County. Florida Highway Patrol said a car was traveling northbound when the driver saw a car that had crashed in the right travel lane and swerved to the right to avoid the car. The crash was north of Atlantic Avenue. As a result, the driver struck the person who was standing in the outside emergency lane near the disabled vehicle.
