‘A tragic, tragic accident’: 3 University of Oklahoma meteorology students killed in crash with semi-truck

OCEANSIDE, Calif. — An off-duty San Diego Police Department officer was treated for minor injuries after being struck by a vehicle while removing tires from Interstate 5 on Friday morning. The incident was first reported at 6 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. CHP Officer Hunter Gerber said a semi-truck, driven by a 47-year-old Granada Hills resident, was traveling southbound on Interstate 5 near state Route 76 when two of its tires dislodged and rolled into the southbound traffic lanes on Interstate 5.

A man was killed on Highway 1 on the Oxnard Plain Friday morning while standing next to a disabled vehicle on the shoulder, according to the California Highway Patrol. The accident north of Wood Road was reported around 7 a.m. The site is in an unincorporated agricultural area south of Hueneme Road, near Naval Base Ventura County, Point Mugu. Marcelo Santos, 34, a Gardena resident, was standing next to a disabled 2000 Ford Explorer SUV parked on the right northbound shoulder, according to Officer Vince Rangel of the CHP’s Ventura office.

Yavapai County, AZ – April 20, 2022, a pedestrian was struck and killed after an 18-wheeler hit an unoccupied car in the lanes of Interstate 17 in Yavapai County. Authorities say the incident happened around 12:30 a.m. on I-17 near Black Canyon City. Preliminary investigation suggests a passenger vehicle was stopped in the Number 2 lane of the road for unknown reasons when it was hit by a tractor-trailer. The impact pushed the unoccupied car into a pedestrian who was standing near it on the road.

LORAIN COUNTY, Ohio (WJW) – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a massive fire that followed a crash involving two semi-trucks Wednesday night on the Ohio Turnpike. It happened in the eastbound lanes of I-80 near Murray Ridge Road. Just after 8:15 p.m., OSHP says a semi-truck became stuck in the right lane due to an issue with the vehicle. Another semi-driver hit that truck, ran off the road and hit the concrete median.

According to the sheriff’s office, they had received information that the missing person was possibly near Snelling. The sheriff’s office used a Helicopter to fly over the area and spotted a road sign that was down at the intersection of Snelling Road and Highway 59.

DOVER - A multi-vehicle fatal crash on the Spaulding Turnpike Tuesday at around 5:30 a.m, shut down two southbound lanes of traffic after the Dover toll booth and before the Little Bay Bridge, near mile marker 4.8. According to New Hampshire State Police, the crash has resulted in a single fatality. Kyla Morgan, a 38-year-old woman from Barrington, was pronounced dead on the scene. Three vehicles were involved in the crash, each with only one occupant.

HOLMDEL – Seven people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash on the Garden State Parkway early Monday morning, New Jersey State Police spokeswoman Brandi Slota said. Troopers responded to a report of a collision near milepost 116.8 in Holmdel about 3:15 a.m., Slota said. An on-scene investigation revealed that a GMC Sierra pickup collided with a Hyundai Elantra from the rear, according to police. The Hyundai subsequently hit an Acura MDX that was disabled because it was involved in an earlier crash, police said.

FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — Northbound Hwy. 99 was shut down early Tuesday morning following a crash involving several vehicles. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said officers were called to Hwy. 99 north of North Ave. around 3:15 a.m. Tuesday, where three or four cars crashed. CHP says 66-year-old Aloma Waith of Stockton was driving a Dodge Stratus when she veered off the highway, overcorrected, and hit a concrete wall causing her vehicle to become disabled in the fast lane.

Dallas police say a man driving a 2009 blue Honda Accord was involved in a single-car accident in the 10700 block of westbound LBJ Freeway around 1:00 a.m. The accident left the Accord disabled in the left lane. A semi-truck attempting to pass another 18-wheeler was in the left lane when the driver hit the Honda, and pulled to the right forcing both semi-trucks to hit the concrete barrier.
