17-year-old killed after being struck by big rig in Solano County, CHP says
SOLANO COUNTY, Calif. — A 17-year-old girl died Sunday after being struck by a big rig in Solano County, according to the California Highway Patrol. Just before 1 a.m., a big rig was traveling westbound on Interstate 80 at Dixon Avenue, approaching a separate crash in the roadway, officials said.The big rig driver was unable to stop as it approached the previous crash, and collided with several other vehicles, CHP said.

(CNN)A Tennessee father and his infant daughter were among 10 people – nine of whom were children – killed in a fiery multi-vehicle crash on an Alabama highway this weekend. Cody Fox, 29, of New Hope, Tennessee, and his 9-month-old daughter were identified in a press release issued by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency on Sunday night. The other victims in the crash were children aged between 3 and 17, who were traveling in a vehicle belonging to a ranch for neglected or abused school-age children, authorities said.

The release said the three “were standing on the roadway near the left shoulder” when the five-vehicle crash happened. METAIRIE, La. — A 16-year-old boy died of severe injuries from a crash on the I-10 in Metairie on Juneteenth, a report from Louisiana State police said on Father’s Day. The boy, Marrero resident Christopher Cruz was taken to a hospital alongside two others who were hurt in the crash. Cruz and another person were hurt badly in the crash, the third person’s injuries were minor.

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - A woman is in serious condition after being hit near mile marker 203.5 on Interstate 75 just before midnight Sunday. The Florida Highway Patrol says the woman stopped her car on the right shoulder and was preparing to open the driver-side door, while another vehicle was driving by in the right lane. That vehicle collided into the woman and into her car. The woman has since been sent to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

Tahoka, TX – June 20, 2021, 58-year-old James Dean Levasseur was killed in a collision with a parked tractor-trailer on U.S. Highway 87 near Tahoka. Authorities say the incident happened around 10:30 p.m. on US-87, roughly five miles south of town. Preliminary investigation suggests Levasseur was traveling on the roadway when he drifted onto the right shoulder for unknown reasons. His pickup then struck a Peterbilt semi-trailer that was stopped in the area due to a breakdown.

Within four minutes of arriving on the scene to aid a stalled tractor-trailer driver on an Atlanta interstate, HERO operator Chris Canady looked up and saw another 18-wheeler barreling right toward them. It took only seconds before he was on the ground. “The back portion of (the passing tractor-trailer) touched the driver side of the disabled tractor-trailer and then started coming towards us, and then when I looked to my right, you could see that the tractor-trailer started closing in on us,” Canady told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, describing the frightening scene of last week’s crash in Clayton County.

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A multi-vehicle crash closed a portion of Interstate 24 in Rutherford County Friday morning. The crash happened in the eastbound lanes around 1:30 a.m. between the Sam Ridley Parkway and Almaville Road exits in Smyrna. According to Tennessee Highway Patrol, the crash involved injuries but neither the number of people injured not the extent of their injuries was immediately released. Early reports from THP indicate one of the vehicles involved in the crash may have had a mechanical issue and was stranded on the roadway when another vehicle hit the disabled one.

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — One person is dead following a crash Friday involving a tractor trailer and a pickup truck on Interstate-95 South in Hanover County, according to Virginia State Police. Police said an initial investigation found that a tractor trailer was struck from behind by a pickup truck near mile marker 94, just north of the Town of Ashland. The tractor trailer had reflective triangles behind it while it was stopped on the right shoulder, according to state police.
