Couple struck by wayward SUV while changing flat tire along I-5
BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Three people were injured when an SUV smashed into a truck and travel trailer that was undergoing a tire change along I-5 in Bellingham Sunday. The trailer had suffered a flat tire in the northbound lanes near Samish Way and a man and woman were just about done replacing with a spare when an SUV changed lanes and veered into shoulder, striking the trailer, according to Trooper Rocky Oliphant.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — One person is dead following a crash early Monday morning on I-295 South in Jacksonville. Troopers said it happened near the Town Center Parkway exit. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at 3:45 a.m., a silver car was traveling southbound on I-295 when it hit a crash attenuator, on the right shoulder of the ramp. FHP said the car became disabled, blocking the on-ramp from Town Center Parkway to southbound I-295.

A Siloam man was killed Monday morning when he was struck by a tractor-trailer on U.S. 52 South, near the Cook School Road exit. Marvin H. Bledsoe Sr., of Siloam, 85, had for some reason stopped his car on the shoulder of the southbound lane of U.S. 52, then wondered into oncoming traffic when he was struck, according to North Carolina Highway Patrol First Sgt. J.M. Church. The sergeant said officials do not yet know why Bledsoe had exited his car.

A passenger inside a disabled car on the New Jersey Turnpike was killed early Monday after the vehicle was struck by a pickup truck, authorities said. The crash occurred about 4:10 a.m. in a southbound lane at milepost 105.7 in Newark, according to New Jersey State Police. The car became disabled in the right lane of the highway and was hit from behind by a pickup truck, according to Sgt. Philip Curry.

ST. LOUIS – A man was struck and killed on westbound I-70 near Adelaide at approximately 12:50 a.m. Saturday. Officers say the driver of the car was traveling westbound on I-70 when she saw a disabled vehicle partially on the left shoulder and partially in the left lane of the highway. The driver veered to the right and struck the pedestrian who walked out into the roadway from in front of the disabled vehicle.

A Texas woman whose car had become disabled on Interstate 49 was hit and killed by a passing truck on Friday morning, according to Louisiana State Police. Diana L. Winship, 72, of Richardson, Texas, had gotten out of her car around 9:20 a.m. near Exit 73. She was standing near the white fog line when she was hit by a 2012 Ford pickup truck, reads a release.Winship was seriously injured and was taken to a hospital, where she later died.

MADISON COUNTY — A woman from St. Charles died in a crash Thursday afternoon when her car stalled on the interstate and was hit by a tractor-trailer. The 34-year-old woman, not yet identified by police, was driving a 2016 Toyota on eastbound Interstate 70, at milepost 18 in Madison County, when her car stalled. The tractor-trailer did not slow down, police say, and hit her car just after 12:30 p.m.

DEERFIELD BEACH — A Coconut Creek man died this week in a “chain reaction crash” in Deerfield Beach, authorities said. Joe Robertson, 71, rear-ended another driver in a 2018 Toyota who had stopped at a red light at the intersection of Northwest 45th Avenue and West Hillsboro Boulevard about 9:40 a.m. Tuesday.Roberston parked his Lexus behind the car in the center lane of West Hillsboro Bouelvard, but didn’t turn on his hazard lights, according to a Broward Sheriff’s Office news release.

A 54-year-old woman killed Tuesday in a vehicle-pedestrian collision on Pawnee near Hillside had gotten out of her car after she was involved in a minor accident to check on the other driver, Wichita police say. Department spokesman Officer Trevor Macy said the woman, Michelle Truong, was fatally injured shortly after 9 p.m. “Through their investigation, officers learned that Truong was involved in a minor accident just east of the intersection,” Macy said.

An Elburn woman who shoved her husband out of the way of an oncoming truck while they were helping a motorist on Route 20 in Elgin Monday died of her injuries a few hours later, Kane County Coroner Rob Russell said. The couple had stopped to check on a juvenile girl who lost control of her vehicle and struck a guardrail about 8:30 p.m. on westbound Route 20 near McLean Road, an Elgin Police Department Facebook post said.
