Man Who Lost Leg Hailed As Hero For Helping Stranded Driver On Merritt Parkway
A Fairfield County man is being hailed a hero after losing his leg while stopped to help a stranded driver and was hit by a vehicle. The crash took place around 9 p.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 4, on the Merritt Parkway in Greenwich, said the Connecticut State Police. According to police, the crash occurred when a vehicle was disabled on the shoulder of the northbound lane and a second vehicle was stopped adjacent to the vehicle offering a jump start when it was struck by another vehicle that was hit from behind while changing lanes and then braked because of the second car.

Police have identified the victim of a fatal Mass Pike collision involving a tractor-trailer truck and a man on the side of the road attempting to fix his vehicle. This is the second time in February 2021 that a person in a broken-down vehicle on the side of I-90 was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer. The most recent accident happened on Saturday, Feb. 20, around 6 a.m. Massachusetts State Troopers responded to a report of a man being hit by a vehicle.

A woman was killed in a crash Sunday on Interstate 57 on the South Side, and a good Samaritan who pulled over to help was injured in a hit-and-run, state police said. Troopers responded to a rollover crash about 3:17 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-57 near 107th Street, Illinois State Police said. A person involved in that crash was pronounced dead, state police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified her as Alfreda Blanton, of Gresham.

ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. (WLS) – Three of the four people killed in a crash on Illinois Route 53 in Rolling Meadows Saturday night have been identified by Illinois State Police. A 6-year-old boy and 17-year-old boy were among those killed in the crash, according to officials.Troopers said a blue Ford Fiesta pulled over on the side of Route 53 near Kirchoff Road just before midnight Saturday. Moments later, a 2018 Jeep Wrangler smashed into the back of the car.

They say a car either hit the disabled car or the people with it.

SOUTHBURY, Conn. — A man has died from injuries sustained in a crash that shut down I-84 eastbound in Southbury Thursday night. Connecticut State Police tweeted saying the highway will be closed between Exits 15-16. According to a release, drivers from both involved vehicles in a previous crash were standing outside of the car, when a 2007 Honda Pilot struck the driver’s side of the disabled vehicle, causing it to strike a female pedestrian.

JELLICO MOUNTAIN, Tenn. (WATE) — Traffic along Interstate 75 southbound began moving along smoothly late Thursday following a multivehicle crash that had shut down the lanes for a few hours. The pileup involved dozens of vehicles, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol. The crash occurred near Mile Marker 155 in which eight semi-trucks and more than 10 passenger vehicles were involved. As of late Thursday night, it was unclear what had caused the pileup, but there had been thick foggy conditions in the area at the time of the crash.

FARMER CITY – A 28-year-old man from LeRoy died in a crash early Thursday morning in DeWitt County, according to Illinois State Police. ISP says the crash happened around 4:30 a.m. on Interstate 74 near Farmer City.ISP says a preliminary investigation indicates the LeRoy man was driving eastbound and lost control of his truck on an icy bridge. The truck hit the guardrail and became disabled in the left lane. Police say the front end of a semi-tractor trailer struck the driver’s side door.

Police say that a truck driver was killed on Thursday night after losing control and crashing into another vehicle on an icy San Antonio bridge. The incident began just before 8 p.m. on February 18 on the I-10 bridge over FM 1516 on the Far East side of the city. According to the San Antonio Police Department, an SUV spun out and hit a wall on the bridge amid icy road conditions.

COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - The driver of a truck was killed and a juvenile passenger was injured following a crash involving multiple vehicles. It happened on Thursday afternoon at 12:35 p.m. on I-95 southbound near mile marker 60. The Highway Patrol reported that a GMC Sierra was traveling on the highway, ran off the road and struck a Ram Truck that was parked on the shoulder. Troopers said the Ram Truck then struck a semi-truck which was also parked on the shoulder.
