ANGER AFTER TWO-TRUCK DRIVER KILLED ON THE JOB WHILE HELPING DRIVER ON NJ HIGHWAY
HARDING — A tow truck operator was killed Wednesday as he helped a driver with their broken down vehicle along the shoulder of Route 287. The death sparked outrage by coworkers, who hoped the preventable loss will bring more attention to a roadway safety law. State Police Sgt. Jeffrey LeBron said the tow truck was with a disabled Honda on the southbound right shoulder near Exit 31 (Route 124). A Jeep SUV then came down the shoulder and struck both vehicles and the tow truck operator, Daniel Ortiz, 24, of Hopatcong.

Rochester, NY (July 3, 2025) – A vehicle rear-ended a stopped RTS bus on Mount Hope Avenue near Comfort Street Wednesday evening, leaving two individuals injured. Authorities say the RTS bus was stationary at the time of the incident when it was struck from behind by a northbound vehicle. The bodies of two brothers have been found three weeks after they were reported missing in California. At around 3:00 p.m. local time on June 6, James Fuller, 61, and his brother Eric, 60, left Cuyama to drive to Santa Maria — a distance of around 130 miles — for a scheduled doctor’s appointment. They never arrived, and a missing persons report for the pair was filed by the family, which was subsequently shared in a post on Facebook.

A Dumfries woman was struck and killed on Interstate 95 early Tuesday morning after her car apparently ran out of gas. State police said a 2012 Toyota Corolla was heading northbound on I-95 near the 152 mile marker near the Dumfries exit when the driver was “unable to avoid a pedestrian in the travel lane.” The pedestrian, Karen S. Rosa Hernandez of Dumfries, died at the scene. A gas can was located nearby, state police spokesman Matthew Demlein said in a news release.

Jacksonville, FL (June 30, 2025) – A tragic accident early Monday morning claimed the life of a 28-year-old Jacksonville man after his pickup truck collided with a disabled box truck on the southbound lanes of the Buckman Bridge, part of Interstate 295. The collision occurred around 6 a.m., just south of the U.S. 17 exit, during peak rush hour. According to a statement from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the pickup truck was traveling in the left lane when, for reasons still under investigation, it veered into the left emergency lane and struck the rear end of a stationary box truck.

A street sweeper driver has died after a crash on a Central California freeway offramp Monday morning. California Highway Patrol says, just before 8:30 a.m., a street sweeper was apparently taking the southbound Highway 99 offramp to Lathrop Road just north of Manteca when it drove onto the shoulder. That’s when the street sweeper crashed into a tractor-trailer that was stopped in the shoulder area, officers say. The impact of the crash rotated the street sweeper back into traffic.

One person was killed and another seriously injured Wednesday night in Edison when they stopped their car on Route 27 to retrieve a fallen potted plant and were struck by an oncoming vehicle, authorities said. The Edison residents had stopped in the northbound left lane of Route 27 around 10:15 p.m. after a potted plant fell from their car and landed in the southbound lane, according to police. As they crossed the roadway to retrieve it, both were hit by a vehicle traveling southbound.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Three pedestrians were injured in a crash in Kansas City on Sunday morning. According to the Kansas City Police, emergency crews were called to the area of northbound I-35 and Paseo at around 11:20 a.m. on Sunday morning. Preliminary investigation revealed that a white Toyota Corolla was stopped on the right shoulder of the highway with three pedestrians standing outside of the vehicle. A white Dodge Ram pulling a trailer was traveling northbound on I-35.

FENTON, Mo. — A woman was killed minutes before midnight Saturday in a St. Louis County crash, police said. The woman, 27, from Caseyville, Illinois, was in a 2011 Toyota Camry that was stopped on I-44, blocking a westbound lane after a previous collision, a crash report from police said. According to the report, a second vehicle, a 2021 Ford SUV, was traveling in the westbound lanes when it rear-ended the Camry.

New Jersey State Police troopers responded around 4:39 a.m. to the southbound lanes at milepost 114.7 on the western spur in Carlstadt, Bergen County, NJSP Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron said. According to a preliminary investigation, a 25-year-old man from Paterson was driving a Honda Civic southbound when the vehicle veered onto the right shoulder, hit a guardrail, and crashed into the back of a parked International tractor-trailer, Lebron said. The Bronx man, who was riding in the passenger seat, suffered serious injuries.
