Good Samaritan killed on I-65 northbound near Elizabethtown
A Hardin County man was killed while helping a person involved in a traffic accident on Interstate 65 on Monday morning. Officials got an initial call at 3:25 am about an accident near the 97-mile marker of I 65 north involving one vehicle, said Hardin County Deputy Coroner Shana Norton. The man killed was Michael Fizer, 48, of Hardin County, Norton said. He stopped to help the person in the crash when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

Omaha Police say 19-year old Carlos Gonzales of Omaha has been booked for leaving the scene of a personal injury collision after a person working on a disabled vehicle was hit by a car Sunday evening. Investigators say 30-year old Reynold Reed was fixing a tire near 60th and F Streets when he was hit by a northbound Nissan Altima. Police say warning lights were flashing on the car, and an orange traffic cone was in place.

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – A 31-year-old man died Saturday from being struck by a car when he ran into traffic minutes after his car hit a guardrail. According to Florida Highway Patrol, the driver somehow lost control of the vehicle and collided with a guardrail before the car came to rest on the grass shoulder of the road. The driver was traveling in the express lanes of northbound I-75, just south of Sheridan Street (SR 822).

WASHINGTON — A man is dead after he was struck and killed by a car while he was putting gas in his vehicle on Baltimore-Washington Parkway early Sunday morning, U.S. Park Police said. The fatal pedestrian crash happened on southbound BW Parkway just south of Interstate 495 around 3 a.m., police said. The man was struck on the shoulder of the roadway and pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the incident.

STURGIS, S.D. — At around 8:29 a.m. Friday morning, there was a four-vehicle crash on I-90 at mile marker 34 one mile east of Sturgis. A 2014 Ford Focus was westbound on I-90 and crashed into a guard rail on the median side where it became disabled in the passing lane. A 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan was westbound in the passing lane and came upon the Ford Focus, where it tried to merge into the driving lane, but a 2017 Ford Transit van, also in the passing lane, rear-ended a 2014 Toyota Tundra, which then hit the Caravan.

A Chicago man died on Interstate 57 in Oak Forest overnight when the car he was in rear-ended another car that was stopped on the road after becoming disabled, critically injuring a passenger in the first car, police said.Roosevelt Logan, 23, of the 9700 block of South Wentworth Avenue, was pronounced dead at 12:04 a.m. at the scene on I-57 near Cicero Avenue and 171st Street in Oak Forest, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

SANDPOINT — The son of a retired law officer was struck and nearly killed Monday while assisting at the scene of a collision involving an elk on U.S. Highway 95. The retired officer said his 21-year-old son had stepped around his vehicle to dispatch the elk when he was struck by a southbound motorist. The man’s father said four vehicles were pulled to the side of the road with their hazard signals illuminated.

One person died Tuesday following a crash on Interstate 40/85 in Alamance County. Around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13, Marco Antonio Aponte Shetter, 37, of Mebane N.C., was driving west near N.C. Highway 54, according to a press release from the N.C. State Highway Patrol. The Highway Patrol said Imtiaz Rasul, 60, of High Point, N.C. was sitting in a disabled box truck in the median when Shetter hit the back of Rasul’s vehicle.

A 21-year-old woman from the Central Interior was killed in an accident north of Cache Creek on the weekend. It happened Saturday night just before 8 p.m. on Highway 97, near the junction with Highway 99. Police officers from Clinton and Ashcroft responded to the scene. RCMP Traffic Services Cpl. Mike Halskov says a southbound vehicle lost all power after hitting a deer and was stuck in the southbound lane.

KUTV — Two people died Sunday night when they were struck and killed by an oncoming truck. The accident happened at approximately 8:16 p.m. when a Ford Explorer traveling eastbound struck a cow at milepost 102 on state Route 40 in Duchesne County. The driver of the Ford stopped and got out of his vehicle. A Hyundai Sonata traveling behind the Ford stopped near it and a backseat passenger exited the car, the Utah Department of Public Safety reported.
