Man, 73, struck by car while helping crash victims NORTH CANTON, Ohio (WOIO) - A 73-year-old Good Samaritan man was struck while trying to help the victims of a car crash in North Canton on Friday, according to police. North Canton Police Chief Frank Kemp Jr. said the department received several 911 calls for a two-car crash in the 100 block of Everhard Road SW at 6:37 p.m. The report stated police, fire, and EMS crews arrived on scene just five minutes later.

SAN MARCOS — A Caltrans worker and two other people were injured, one of them seriously, on Tuesday afternoon when a Jeep crashed into the back of a stopped Caltrans pickup on the shoulder of state Route 78 in San Marcos, authorities said. The crash prompted authorities to issue a traffic alert and shut down parts of east SR-78 at Nordahl Road until about 6:30 p.m., snarling the evening rush-hour commute in parts of North County.

A Hollister, Missouri, woman suffered serious injuries when a semi-truck’s trailer hit her vehicle, which had crashed on an icy road Wednesday night. The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Ronda Bethell, 60, was a passenger in a Chevrolet Trailblazer that lost control on an ice-covered Highway 5 outside Camdenton. The vehicle hit a guardrail and was partially blocking a lane when it stopped, according to an online crash report. The driver, Scott Bethell, 63, also of Hollister, suffered minor injuries.

PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Troopers say weather was a factor in the death of a Farmville man who was struck and killed by his own car this morning. Kevin Sugg, 46, was involved in a two-car crash on U.S. 264 and Wesley Church Road near Farmville around 7:30 a.m. Sugg’s car was disabled in the median, according to Trooper Noah Miles, and the man got out to speak to a witness.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said the fatal crash took place in the Turnpike’s southbound lanes near the State Road 50 exit around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Troopers said at least one person was killed in the crash and four others were taken to a nearby hospital. A total of seven vehicles were involved in the crash, according to the Highway Patrol. FHP said the preliminary investigation shows a vehicle was disabled on the right shoulder.

It was a deadly Saturday night on two New Jersey highways as two men were killed in separate crashes, one of them involving a hit and run driver, according to police. On the New Jersey Turnpike in Secaucus, 33-year-old Jose Peralta was found lying in the highway around 11:50 p.m., according to State Police spokesman Trooper Alejandro Goez. Goez said the East Newark man had been changing a tire on his car when he was struck by another vehicle that did not stop.

A Pennsylvania woman and child are dead after a crash in Sussex County early Wednesday morning. State police were called to the crash on Interstate 95 at mile marker 25 around 4:20 a.m. Troopers on scene determined a sedan and a tractor-trailer were involved. Investigators say the driver of the sedan experienced mechanical problems and stopped in the right lane of travel without turning on the hazards. While stopped, a tractor-trailer hit the vehicle from behind, pushing it onto the shoulder.

A 57-year-old man died after stopping in Suffolk County to help a teen in a broken-down SUV, police said Sunday. Cops said the 18-year-old man was driving his 1998 Nissan Pathfinder west on Motor Parkway, between Hoffman Lane and Veterans Memorial Highway, around 6 p.m. Saturday when the vehicle broke down in the road. The 57-year-old Bay Shore man, who police identified as Federico Oviedo, pulled up behind the SUV in his 2003 Toyota minivan to help the teen, according to cops.
