Victim’s vehicle was disabled when hit on I-90; Four-year-old child also injured in crash
A woman was tragically killed on Saturday, January 11th in Rockford when her disabled vehicle was struck by a FedEx truck. The fatal accident occurred at approximately 1:20 a.m. on Interstate 90. The FedEx driver hit the woman’s vehicle and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman’s 4-year-old child was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that are not life-threatening. The Illinois State Police (ISP) is investigating the crash.

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WLS) – A woman was killed in a crash involving a FedEx truck in northern Illinois Saturday. The crash occurred on I-90 in Rockford Saturday at around 1:20 a.m. llinois State Police said the truck driver hit a disabled vehicle. A woman driving the disabled vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police. The woman’s 4-year-old was with her at the time. The child was taken to a nearby hospital for injuries that aren’t life threatening, ISP officials said.

One man is dead, and another in serious condition after being hit on the H-2 Freeway early Thursday morning. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) reports two men were working on a stalled vehicle when they were hit by a car. The 43-year-old man was pronounced dead later Thursday. The 49-year-old man involved was last reported to be in serious condition.

A fiery crash involving a semi-truck shut down all three northbound lanes of Interstate 75 in Hernando County, authorities said. The Florida Highway Patrol said a driver left their Mercedes disabled after they were involved in a crash in the southbound lanes of the Interstate near mile marker 303. The semi-truck did not see the Mercedes and slammed into the back of the car, then went spinning into the northbound lanes of the interstate.

The accident occurred at 8:03 p.m. and I-94 northbound lanes were closed as emergency medical personnel attended to and transported victims to the hospital. Initial radio traffic reported a rollover accident occurred in which one vehicle had struck a disabled vehicle. A Flight for Life emergency medical helicopter was also called to the hospital.

CHP says the big rig, driven by 53-year-old Aurelio Castaneda of Tulare, drove away from the scene of the crash, leaving the Hyundai blocking traffic with no lights on. After nearly 5-minutes, an oncoming SUV crashed into the disabled Hyundai. A 20-year-old man in the back of the Hyundai received major injuries in the second crash; the driver of the SUV received only mild injuries.

A Chicago woman was killed early Saturday as she was standing alongside a disabled vehicle on U.S. Interstate 80 near Earlham and a passing motorist struck the vehicle. Carmen Benitez, 56, of Chicago, a passenger in Galicia’s vehicle, “was standing outside the vehicle when it was struck” by a 2019 Cadillac Escalade, driven by Ali Elride, 38, of Queens County, New York.

An 8-year-old child was killed in a crash that happened on FM 41 east of Ropesville. A truck tractor that was towing a semi-trailer was stopped on FM 41 with hazard lights activated at around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 2nd. A 2017 Ford pickup approached the rear of the semi-trailer without realizing it was stopped, and attempted to veer left to avoid striking it. The collision was unavoidable, and the Ford struck the rear of the semi-trailer.

Janett McGahey, 41, of Punta Gorda, reached for the cigarette and veered right onto the shoulder, striking the left side of a Chevy 2500 driven by a 39-year-old man from Lehigh Acres, according to a press release. The Chevy was parked behind a disabled vehicle on the right paved shoulder of Interstate 75 in Charlotte County, with lighted warning signs and traffic cones. After striking that vehicle, McGahey then continued north, striking an 82-year-old pedestrian, as well as the disabled vehicle.

Traffic safety officials say to stay in your disabled vehicle until help arrives, but doing just that didn’t prevent three Lansing men from getting hurt in a crash on Friday night, and one of them has now died. A car on the shoulder had broken down and had its four-way flashers activated when another car in the right lane veered to the right and rammed into it. The three men, ranging in age from 25 to 29, were passengers inside of the disabled vehicle and were taken to Hackley Hospital for treatment, with one of them initially listed in critical condition.
