Two people killed by hit-and-run drivers in Aiken County
AIKEN COUNTY, SC (WFXG) - Two people are dead in unrelated hit-and-run incidents along the highways. According to the Aiken County Corner’s Office, Irma V. Soto and her fiancé were driving along Edgefield Hwy. on Friday, Oct. 9, when at about 10:59 p.m. they got off their truck at the 1400 block, near Sassafras Rd, to move an item that had fallen off their vehicle. It was then that a southbound sedan hit Soto and kept going without stopping.

On Thursday night, a woman was outside on Interstate 30 trying to repair a tow strap and died when a car struck two disabled vehicles near where she was standing, police said.Two vehicles were in the eastbound lanes of traffic, near MacArthur Boulevard. The drivers of both disabled vehicles were standing, at about 8 p.m.,outside, attempting to repair the strap as a third person remained inside one of the vehicles.

AURORA, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Aurora Friday morning. Around 10:21 a.m., a 2020 Freightliner box truck was traveling south on state Route 43. The truck stopped in the right lane with its hazard lights flashing, waiting to pull into a driveway to make a delivery, according to troopers. At the same time, a 2015 Ford F-250 owned by the city of Aurora and assigned to the fire department was traveling north in the left lane of SR 43 with its emergency lights on and sirens activated responding to an emergency call, troopers said.

POTTAWATOMIE COUNTY, Okla. - The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said a man died after he was struck by a tractor trailer early Friday morning. The accident happened just before 6:30 a.m. on the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 near the Earlsboro exit in Pottawatomie County. Initially, 57-year-old Robert Scott of Prague was involved in an accident that caused his vehicle to depart the I-40 westbound lanes, strike a guardrail and land on the interstate’s grass shoulder.

A 44-year-old Westville woman has been identified as the victim of a pedestrian crash Wednesday night on Interstate 74 east of Danville. Vermillion County, Indiana, Sheriff Mike Phelps reported Friday morning that Meghan J. Nigra of Westville died in the collision after she apparently got out of her vehicle, which was stopped in the emergency lane, and was walking on the highway. Authorities continue to seek the public’s help with the investigation into the incident that occurred on I-74 near the Indiana 63 interchange.

GATESVILLE - A driver who stopped to help someone with apparent car trouble was struck and killed Wednesday morning near Gatesville. Kary Sue Poorman, 58, of Purmela was pronounced dead at the scene. A male occupant of a vehicle with car trouble was flown to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Temple. The driver of a 2014 Subaru Forester SUV, Joan Ann Werner, 76, of Canyon Lake, was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

A 30-year-old New Jersey man was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer in Virginia on Monday after pulling over when his vehicle became disabled, authorities said. Richard J. Zadroga, of Bayonne, was hit along Route 130 near Buffalo Springs Turnpike in Amherst County, according to the Virginia State Police.“As a tractor-trailer passed by, the driver of the disabled vehicle suddenly ran into the travel lane,” a Virginia State Police spokeswoman wrote in an email.

Carnell Jones, 21, and a 19-year-old woman were hit and killed when pushing a disabled vehicle out of the road early Sunday morning. JACKSONVILLE, Fla — A 21-year-old man was killed while helping others, and his family says he died doing what he loved. On Wednesday, family and friends gathered at Herlong Road and Interstate 295 to remember the life of Carnell Jones. Family members say Jones was helping a complete stranger push a disabled vehicle out of the road on I-295 early Sunday morning.

Authorities say a Garden City man whose car broke down on I-75 was hit by two vehicles and killed as he tried to cross the freeway. The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. Thursday along northbound I-75 just south of Swan Creek Road in Berlin Township. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department says the 64-year-old victim left his disabled vehicle along the roadway and was walking across the freeway when he was struck by a Ford Explorer that was traveling in the center lane.

A 26-year-old Naperville man was killed Monday night in a three-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 55. The crash occurred at 6:23 p.m. just south of Lemont Road, according to the Illinois State Police. A news release said Naperville resident Hunter G. Johnnic was driving a 2011 silver Volkswagen when he struck the rear of a 2012 gray Honda driven by Juan D. Castillo-Tobar, 23, of Bolingbrook. Johnnic’s vehicle then became disabled in traffic and was struck by a 2017 gray Jeep driven by Mitchel R.
