2 critically injured when pickup plows into good Samaritans helping stranded driver
HOUSTON – One woman was critically injured early Monday when a pickup plowed into a group of good Samaritans who had stopped to try and help a what they thought was a stranded driver in northwest Harris County. The crash was reported about 12:45 a.m. on Barker Cypress Road near Coventry Park Drive. According to Harris County deputies, three drivers stopped on the side of the road when they saw a damaged car on the side of the road.

4-year-old boy was killed Friday night when his family’s stalled vehicle was hit from behind, Euless police say. Police said a mother and her four children were in a Chrysler Pacifica in the left express lane of the 800 block of West Airport Freeway when an SUV struck them. Police think the family was hit when traffic, which had slowed, started up again while their vehicle stalled.

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal collision that happened after another crash early this morning, Jan. 26, on Route 1 between Townsend and Odessa. Esteban Pantoja-Gordillo, 34, of Marydel, was traveling south on Route 1 north of Fieldsboro Road when his car left the road and struck a guardrail in the center median. The car traveled back across southbound Route 1 to the right shoulder. Pantoja-Gordillo exited his car and began walking south on Route 1 in the right lane, police said.

ISLANDIA, N.Y. (AP) — A man who had stopped to help another driver was killed when they were hit by another oncoming car, Suffolk County police said. Authorities said the first vehicle, driven by an 18-year-old man, had become disabled on Motor Parkway near Veterans Memorial Highway around 6:20 p.m. Saturday. A 57-year-old man from Bay Shore, New York, stopped to help the driver, pulling up behind him. Suffolk County police said the men were walking behind the second man’s car to get some tools when they were hit by another car driven by a 22-year-old woman.

The off-duty Martin County sheriff’s deputy seriously injured in a secondary crash early Saturday morning has been identified as Shawn Green. Green was assisting the victim of a rollover crash around 1:20 a.m. Saturday — along the Martin Grade Scenic Highway (County Road 714) west of Southwest Allapatah Road (County Road 609) — when he was struck by another vehicle. Green had notified dispatch of the initial crash and a responding deputy found him laying in the roadway.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) – A good Samaritan was rushed to the hospital after being struck on the Platt Bridge in Philadelphia just moments after he helped save a stranded mother and her two young kids. Lou Gusbar continues to recover from injuries suffered around 11 p.m. Tuesday as he was standing next to Shauntae Brown’s stalled van when it was hit at a high rate of speed and caught fire. Brown and her sons, ages 4 and 8, had been stuck on the left lane of the bridge for more than 10 minutes after their van stopped working.

Mr. Robert Keyser stopped his 2015 Mazda 3 on the shoulder of the freeway and went to offer aid to the driver of an overturned big rig. As Keyser stood in the No. 3 lane, an oncoming big rig driven by Michael Hensley of Tennessee, struck him before crashing into the first big rig. The two trucks caught fire after the collision. Michael Keyser and the unidentified driver of the first truck were killed in the accident.

At about 1:45 p.m. police had surrounded a vehicle on northbound I-25 just north of the Bijou exit. Someone was reportedly outside of a truck when they were hit. The call for the crash came in at about 12:40 p.m. Investigators are reporting a moving truck was traveling northbound on I-25 when the vehicle sustained a flat tire. An employee went to the front of the truck and peered around the driver’s side when he was hit by the side mirror of a passing truck.

A preliminary investigation revealed a Toyota with three occupants was disabled in the right distress lane — and a pickup truck with two occupants stopped at the scene to assist. While the driver of the pickup was standing outside of his vehicle, the driver of a Chevy Malibu coming from the east to the south ramp lost control and struck him.
