N.C. man struck and killed by his own car on highway
PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – Troopers say weather was a factor in the death of a Farmville man who was struck and killed by his own car this morning. Kevin Sugg, 46, was involved in a two-car crash on U.S. 264 and Wesley Church Road near Farmville around 7:30 a.m. Sugg’s car was disabled in the median, according to Trooper Noah Miles, and the man got out to speak to a witness.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said the fatal crash took place in the Turnpike’s southbound lanes near the State Road 50 exit around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Troopers said at least one person was killed in the crash and four others were taken to a nearby hospital. A total of seven vehicles were involved in the crash, according to the Highway Patrol. FHP said the preliminary investigation shows a vehicle was disabled on the right shoulder.

It was a deadly Saturday night on two New Jersey highways as two men were killed in separate crashes, one of them involving a hit and run driver, according to police. On the New Jersey Turnpike in Secaucus, 33-year-old Jose Peralta was found lying in the highway around 11:50 p.m., according to State Police spokesman Trooper Alejandro Goez. Goez said the East Newark man had been changing a tire on his car when he was struck by another vehicle that did not stop.

A Pennsylvania woman and child are dead after a crash in Sussex County early Wednesday morning. State police were called to the crash on Interstate 95 at mile marker 25 around 4:20 a.m. Troopers on scene determined a sedan and a tractor-trailer were involved. Investigators say the driver of the sedan experienced mechanical problems and stopped in the right lane of travel without turning on the hazards. While stopped, a tractor-trailer hit the vehicle from behind, pushing it onto the shoulder.

A 57-year-old man died after stopping in Suffolk County to help a teen in a broken-down SUV, police said Sunday. Cops said the 18-year-old man was driving his 1998 Nissan Pathfinder west on Motor Parkway, between Hoffman Lane and Veterans Memorial Highway, around 6 p.m. Saturday when the vehicle broke down in the road. The 57-year-old Bay Shore man, who police identified as Federico Oviedo, pulled up behind the SUV in his 2003 Toyota minivan to help the teen, according to cops.

According to Harris County deputies, three drivers stopped on the side of the road when they saw a damaged car on the side of the road.

4-year-old boy was killed Friday night when his family’s stalled vehicle was hit from behind, Euless police say. Police said a mother and her four children were in a Chrysler Pacifica in the left express lane of the 800 block of West Airport Freeway when an SUV struck them. Police think the family was hit when traffic, which had slowed, started up again while their vehicle stalled.

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal collision that happened after another crash early this morning, Jan. 26, on Route 1 between Townsend and Odessa. Esteban Pantoja-Gordillo, 34, of Marydel, was traveling south on Route 1 north of Fieldsboro Road when his car left the road and struck a guardrail in the center median. The car traveled back across southbound Route 1 to the right shoulder. Pantoja-Gordillo exited his car and began walking south on Route 1 in the right lane, police said.

ISLANDIA, N.Y. (AP) — A man who had stopped to help another driver was killed when they were hit by another oncoming car, Suffolk County police said. Authorities said the first vehicle, driven by an 18-year-old man, had become disabled on Motor Parkway near Veterans Memorial Highway around 6:20 p.m. Saturday. A 57-year-old man from Bay Shore, New York, stopped to help the driver, pulling up behind him. Suffolk County police said the men were walking behind the second man’s car to get some tools when they were hit by another car driven by a 22-year-old woman.
