Massive California dust storm caused pileup on highway
CHOWCHILLA, Calif. — A powerful dust storm known as a haboob caused a vehicle pile-up on a central California highway, sending several people to hospitals with minor injuries, authorities said. An enormous rolling cloud of dust reduced visibility Monday afternoon on State Route 152 in Madera County, causing motorists to crash into one another, according to the California Highway Patrol. About 20 cars were involved in the accident, the highway patrol said.

BELCAMP, Md. — A pickup truck driver was killed in a fiery crash Tuesday morning that shut down Interstate 95 in Belcamp through the afternoon, according to Maryland State Police. State police said troopers were called around 6:30 a.m. to the northbound lanes of I-95 near mile marker 81.9 near the Maryland Route 543\Riverside Parkway exit, where a pickup truck rear-ended a tractor-trailer parked on the right shoulder. All lanes of I-95 northbound are closed as firefighters used foam with the assistance of a tanker truck to battle the fire, Harford County fire officials said.

Gary, IN — November 11, 2024, one person was killed following a truck accident at about 1:00 p.m. along Interstate Highway 80. According to authorities, an 18-wheeler hauling two trailers was parked and vacant on the side of the westbound lanes of I.H. 80 in the vicinity of the Grant Street exit when the accident took place. The cause of the accident remains unclear. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a westbound Ford Explorer failed to safely maintain its lane of travel.

BANGOR, Maine — Maine State Police is investigating two related multi-vehicle crashes on the northbound side of I-95 in Bangor. The first crash happened just before 11 a.m. Sunday, when a car in the left lane, sped across the highway to take the exit ramp. Officials say a driver in the right lane slammed on their brakes to avoid a collision, causing a pile-up crash involving three cars. The driver who took the exit wasn’t involved in the crash and didn’t stop.

CINCINNATI — A man was struck and killed on I-75 while examining a disabled vehicle Sunday morning. According to a press release by the Cincinnati Police Department, crews responded to a report of a crash around 1:30 a.m. at the 6.3 mile marker on I-75 northbound. Police said a disabled Chevrolet Malibu parked on the right berm and its occupants, 47-year-old Reco Williams and a 42-year-old woman, were outside of the vehicle examining the problem.

Two men were struck and killed Wednesday on Interstate 78 in Somerset County as they fixed a flat tire on the shoulder of the highway, authorities said. The crash occurred about 5:25 p.m. at milepost 38.7 in Warren Township, according to a spokesman for New Jersey State Police. Based on a preliminary investigation, a minivan with a flat tire was stopped on the right shoulder and two men were outside between the right rear of the vehicle and the guardrail.

The Wheeling Fire Department and Wheeling Police Department responded around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to the area of Lake Cook Road and Milwaukee Avenue for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries. Wheeling Deputy Police Chief Michael Conway said the incident occurred in the eastbound lanes of Lake Cook Road west of Milwaukee Avenue.

On Sunday morning, 23-year-old Zoey Johnson and 22-year-old Rayme Barnes were tending to Barnes’ stalled car on the emergency shoulder of the US-60 near Stapley Road around 8 a.m. That’s when DPS investigators say a passenger vehicle made a lane change and failed to maintain driving within the lane, drifting off the road and hitting Johnson and Barnes.
