4 killed, 2 hurt when car hits guardrail; driver died while trying to stop traffic
PITT COUNTY, N.C. — Four people died and two others were injured late Saturday after a vehicle struck a guardrail on a North Carolina highway, authorities said. One of the fatalities was the driver, who survived the crash but was struck and killed while trying to stop traffic. According to North Carolina State Highway Patrol Master Trooper Rico L. Stephens, the crash occurred at about 11:48 p.m. EDT, WNCT-TV reported.

BEULAH, ND (KXNET) — Two 20-year-olds were killed when their vehicle rear-ended a semi-truck on Highway 49, 11 miles south of Beulah. According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Highway 49 northbound traffic was stopped by the fire department for a vehicle fire that was blocking the roadway. A Volvo Semi truck, driven by a Minot man, was stopped in the northbound lane with more vehicles in front of him.

(FOX40.COM) — Two people died on Wednesday afternoon after their vehicle was rear-ended by a pickup truck in Northern California, according to the California Highway Patrol. CHP said the crash happened on Highway 70 heading north near Montgomery Street in Oroville around noon. The agency said a Volkswagen, which had two people inside, stopped on the roadway when it was rear-ended by a Ram pickup truck. Both people inside of the Volkswagen were pronounced dead at the scene, CHP said.

A 22-year-old Maplewood man was killed in a car crash Sunday morning on Interstate 694 in Oakdale when he stopped his vehicle in the middle of the freeway and was rear-ended by another vehicle. According to the State Patrol, the collision occurred at 5:55 a.m. on I-694 south just south of 10th Street. The driver, Cody Gerald Heidenreich, stopped a 2009 Nissan Cube in the center lane of the freeway.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) — Multiple vehicle accident in the early hours of June 1 leaves one dead. According to the South Carolina Highway patrol around 5:22 a.m. a car was stopped on I-20 east bound in the roadway due to running out of gas, the driver exited the vehicle. A Tractor trailer later struck the vehicle and pedestrian. Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford identified the victim as Christopher D. Hagan, 38.

A 26-year-old woman died Sunday morning in a multi-car crash on Interstate 5 near the West Seattle Bridge, according to the Washington State Patrol. The collision occurred around 4 a.m. Sunday when a motor home struck the woman, who had gotten out of a disabled car, which had been hit by another vehicle that already left the scene, State Patrol spokesperson Trooper Rick Johnson said. While an ambulance stopped to help, it was struck by another vehicle, which flipped the ambulance onto its top and pushed it into the original disabled vehicle, hitting the woman again.

An 18-year-old man who was struck and killed while changing a tire on the Eisenhower Expressway graduated from high school just one week prior, according to relatives. Erik Christopher Cox was one of two people who were killed at around 3 a.m. on Sunday in the westbound lanes of the expressway near Damen Avenue. Three others were injured, according to Illinois State Police. Cox’s legal guardian told NBC Chicago that his car broke down after a night in the city - and he was in the process of changing a tire when he lost his life.

A 21-year-old Texas woman was struck and killed be a pickup truck after her SUV became disabled on the 40 Freeway near Ludlow early Saturday, authorities said. The collision was reported about 2:10 a.m. on the westbound side of the remote stretch of freeway, according to CHP logs. About an hour earlier, authorities received a report that a Nissan SUV rental vehicle had become disabled and was stopped on the right-hand side of the roadway.

FOUR OAKS – A Johnston County man was killed early Friday morning after his disabled car was struck on the shoulder of Interstate 95. The collision was reported at 4:57am, near the 86 mile marker, just south of Keen Road. The Highway Patrol said a 2005 Kia Rio was traveling northbound when the right rear tire failed. The driver, Dannie B. Norris Jr., age 53, of Norris Lane, Benson, pulled onto the shoulder and stopped.
