91-year-old passenger killed in rear-end crash on I-75 in Detroit that left freeway closed for several hours
DETROIT (WWJ) — An elderly man has died after a crash on I-75 in Detroit left the freeway closed for several hours on Monday afternoon. The crash happened shortly before 1:30 p.m. along northbound I-75 near Canfield, according to Michigan State Police. With traffic backed up from a previous crash in the area that had happened moments earlier, MSP officials say a 72-year-old River Rouge woman rear-ended a car that was stopped in traffic.

VERONA, Ky. (WXIX) - Southbound Interstate 71 is back open following an hours-long closure in Northern Kentucky as crews cleaned up a fiery crash and spill involving two semis. Three vehicles in all were involved in the crash that brought traffic to a standstill near the Verona exit starting at 5:30 a.m. “One semi struck hit another semi that was parked on the right shoulder of the interstate,” said Major Philip Ridgell with the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – An 18-year-old man died Saturday night after he was struck by a semi-truck southbound on Interstate 95 in St. Johns County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Around 11:35 p.m., the 18-year-old was driving a pickup truck on I-95 when it ran off the road onto the right shoulder. The driver then crossed all lanes before crashing into the center guardrail, according to the FHP report.

An elderly driver was killed Friday when his car collided into the back of a trash truck in Houston County. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies found Walter Wells, 76, of Pineview, Georgia, had died when the Toyota Camry he was driving on Highway 341 struck a Waste Management truck that was stopped conducting a trash pickup. Wells was pronounced dead on scene by Houston Emergency Medical Services personnel. The collision is under investigation.

EDISON – A Brooklyn man who was standing outside his disabled vehicle was seriously injured after he was struck by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 287 early Monday, according to New Jersey State Police. The 59-year-old man was taken to the hospital, but State Police provided no additional information about his condition. Around 12:31 a.m. Monday, New Jersey State Police were notified about a crash on northbound I-287 at milepost 1.2 in Edison.

ALACHUA, Fla. – Seven people were transported to the hospital, including a woman with serious injuries and an infant, following a multi-vehicle accident yesterday on I-75. At about 3:25 p.m., a pickup truck driven by a 43-year-old Orlando man was traveling southbound in the center lane of I-75 near mile marker 396, and an SUV pulling a car hauler trailer, driven by a 27-year-old man from Kenner, LA, was also traveling southbound directly in front of the pickup truck.

ROSEDALE, Md. – A tractor-trailer rear-ended another tractor-trailer Monday morning in the express lanes of Interstate 95. Maryland State Police said a tractor-trailer was stopped on the right shoulder around 6:10 a.m. in the northbound direction near the Beltway exits in Rosedale. According to a preliminary investigation, a second tractor-trailer rear-ended the stopped tractor-trailer. The driver of the second-tractor trailer was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Their condition was not immediately released.

LA MARQUE, Texas (KTRK) – Traffic was backed up in the La Marque area after a deadly crash involving a pedestrian sparked a total closure on the I-45 Gulf Freeway for hours on Thursday morning. Police said the driver of a vehicle that stalled on one side of the freeway attempted to cross the main lanes to the other side. That’s when they were hit by multiple vehicles. Officials noted that the area is undergoing construction, and there are no emergency shoulders in the area, so the driver had nowhere to pull over.

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — At least one person is dead after a car collided with a semi-truck on Interstate 5 near Camp Pendleton Thursday night, according to California Highway Patrol. The collision was reported just before 9 p.m., near the Cockleburr Road overpass. According to CHP logs, a sedan was traveling at high rates of speed along the southbound lanes when the driver lost control and struck the semi-truck, which was on the right hand side of the road.

The Jeep driver left two clues behind: Auto body parts from the Wrangler. Deputies, Bellevue Police, and Bellevue Fire & Rescue responded to Highway 75 near Childs Road just after 7 p.m. They found a 32-year-old Omaha man injured.
