2 found dead in snowbound vehicle in Interior Alaska mountain pass
Alaska State Troopers said two people were found dead in their vehicle on the Steese Highway in Interior Alaska late Wednesday after howling winds created snowdrifts that made travel all but impossible. Troopers in an update Friday afternoon said they recovered the bodies of the two adults from the vehicle at Eagle Summit on the highway with the help of state transportation crews. A tow truck removed the vehicle, they said.

DUNSEITH, N.D. (KFGO) – Three people were hurt in two related crashes on Highway 3 12 miles south of Dunseith early Thursday. The Highway Patrol said the first crash happened around 3:30 a.m. when a truck left the road, vaulted off an approach and landed in the ditch. The drivers of a car and a pickup stopped to help. The car was parked with headlights shining at the truck. The pickup was parked partially in a driving lane.

PAYSON, Utah — An early morning highway crash in Utah County claimed the lives of two people, while a 15-year-old teenager was critically injured. The crash happened around 1:20 a.m. about one mile South of Payson in the northbound lanes of Interstate 15. Utah Highway Patrol told FOX 13 News the crash involved a semi-truck as well as a Honda Civic. Initially, a semi-truck drifted off the road to the left and overcorrected back to the right, which caused the driver to lose control and roll the semi-truck on its side.

A driver was seriously injured after her car stalled on GA 365 when it ran out of gas Wednesday night. Another car rear-ended the disabled vehicle, setting off a chain-reaction wreck that spread across the northbound travel lanes. The crash occurred around 6:45 p.m. on Jan. 3 at the Demorest-Mt. Airy intersection. State troopers say 33-year-old Beatriz Ruiz of Mt. Airy was driving a Honda Accord north on GA 365 when the car ran out of gas.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A driver was charged in connection with a fatal crash after he hit and killed a Morris County man on the shoulder of I-280 on Sunday afternoon, police said. Luis Nicheporuck, 56, of Randolph, had parked his Chevrolet on the right shoulder of the highway, west of milepost 4.4, in Roseland Borough, Essex County. Around 4 p.m., a Ford pickup truck going westbound, driven by Valerian Kapanadze, a 48-year-old from Hackettstown, crashed into Nicheporuck and his parked car, according to New Jersey State Police Detective Jeffrey Lebron.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol and medics recently responded to the 1200 block of Clarkrange Highway in Putnam County after a vehicle hit a pedestrian. The accident report states a 2004 Jeep Wrangler was disabled on the road. Troopers say 43-year-old Steven L. Elkins was standing in front of the Jeep when an oncoming 2019 Audi operated by 44-year-old Brenda A. Gadd failed to stop and rear-ended the vehicle. The impact caused the Jeep to strike Elkins.

On December 24, 2023, the CHP reported a fatal big rig versus pedestrian crash on SR-58 in Kern County. The incident occurred shortly after 1:10 a.m. along the westbound side of State Route 58 in the vicinity of Tehachapi Boulevard, officials said. A preliminary report indicated that a California City man, age 61, was standing by their vehicle after being involved in a separate accident. A Fresno man, age 23, was behind the wheel of a combination tractor-trailer and allegedly struck the individual on foot.

Police said an adult was standing within the travel lanes of Interstate 71 northbound, just north of Interstate 670 at approximately 2:25 a.m. That person was in a crash beforehand, and had driven their vehicle to this location where the car became disabled along the concrete center divider.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A Jacksonville man is dead after hitting a disabled vehicle Sunday morning on I-95 near International Golf Parkway, according to Florida Highway Patrol. FDOT said emergency vehicles in St. Johns County were on I-95 south at International Golf Parkway with all lanes closed with severity listed as “major.” The crash was near mile marker 321. According to FHP’s report, a sedan driven by a 45-year-old Jacksonville man traveled off the roadway onto the right shoulder and collided with a parked disabled vehicle.

It happened near County Highway G around 7:30 p.m. The sheriff’s office said it started with a disabled vehicle in traffic. A second vehicle struck the disabled vehicle before hitting a third vehicle that was passing the scene, according to the sheriff’s office. Minor injuries were reported. The sheriff’s office does not suspect impairment for anyone involved.
