Police officer fatally hit after stopping at crash scene
SAN DIEGO (KSWB/KUSI) — A police officer and another motorist are dead after they were struck by a vehicle following a multi-car crash on a San Diego highway late Monday night. Authorities said the first crash happened shortly before 10:30 p.m. when a vehicle hit another one and overturned in the eastbound lanes of I-8. A third vehicle then struck the overturned vehicle. La Mesa police said Officer Lauren Craven was driving back from the San Diego Central Jail when she saw the crash and stopped to help.

RAYNE, La. — One person has been taken into custody in connection to a fatal hit and run that occurred in Rayne earlier this month. The Texas Department of Public Safety Violent Crimes Task Force arrested Thomas Smith, 49, of Houston on Tuesday in connection to the hit-and-run crash. Smith is accused of fleeing the scene of the crash that killed Jeremy Thomas, 38, of Rayne. According to Rayne Police Department, Smith parked a tractor hauling a cargo trailer on the shoulder of the I-10 Exit 87 westbound off-ramp.

A Comfort man perished Wednesday evening when his pickup struck the back of a stalled 18-wheeler on Interstate 10 in Boerne, police said. Bradly Dietert, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene on westbound I-10 near the Texas 46 exit. Investigators said Dietert’s Toyota Tundra struck the rear of a semi-tractor trailer experiencing mechanical issues that had stopped in the inside lane of the interstate. Witnesses told police the tanker truck did not have any rear lights on — brake or hazard — until seconds before the impact.

CANFIELD The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) is investigating a multi-vehicle crash that killed a trooper. Responders were on the site of a fatal crash on State Route 11 near Canfield around 1 p.m. According to a press release from OSHP, Trooper Nicholas Cayton responded to Route 11 shortly before noon for reports of a disabled tractor-trailer in the right lane. While on the scene, Cayton was sitting in his cruiser with his emergency lights on when a 2007 Mack Granite truck, driven by 35-year-old Ryan Rach, crashed into the back of the cruiser, causing it to go forward into the back of the disabled tractor-trailer and strike the driver who was in the roadway.

GREGG CO., TX – A Euless man sustained fatal injuries Tuesday night in a multi-vehicle collision along the interstate in Gregg County, reports KLTV 7. The accident occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m. on the westbound side of I-20, somewhere between Liberty City and Longview. Officials haven’t yet provided a cross street or mile marker for the crash. The initial investigation indicates that a westbound box van became disabled in the roadway after rear ending an 18-wheeler.

The crash on Midland Road near Hospital Road involved three vehicles around 3:30 p.m. The bus was stopped in the right lane with its lights flashing and a stop board extended to drop off students and two vehicles stopped behind it.

A man has died after being hit by a fire truck, according to troopers with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. A pickup truck was traveling on U.S. 421, towing a utility trailer, on Saturday, around 6:20 a.m. This was in Guilford County, near the Forsyth County line. Officials said the trailer became detached from the truck, and once the driver noticed, he moved to the shoulder and began backing up.

WESTPORT, Conn. (WFSB) - A New Haven man has died after being hit by a vehicle in Westport on early Monday morning. Troopers responded to the area near Exit 42 around 4:15 a.m. for a reported collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian, state police said. Following an investigation, it was revealed that a 50-year-old New Haven man who was traveling in a Chrysler Pacifica, struck a guardrail in the left side of the highway.

SALT LAKE CITY — An occupant of a Grand Cherokee that crashed and then was hit by another vehicle died at a hospital on Sunday. According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, the driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling west on I-84 near mile marker 103 (approximately 525 North) when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle left the roadway. Nearby, a semitruck described as having an enclosed trailer was stopped on the shoulder of I-84.

A pickup truck became disabled after losing a tire and was hit from behind by a big rig hauling two trailers that didn’t have enough time to evade.
