Interstate crash claims life of Lafayette man
UPDATE: State Police have issued a correction on a release they issued earlier today. Here it is: Correction: The passenger killed in the crash was mistakenly listed as Christopher Baker. The correct identity is 45-year-old Christopher Robert Fisher of Lafayette. A Friday morning crash left a Lafayette man dead, State Police say. Christopher Fisher, 45, was the passenger in a car that was traveling east on Interstate 10 near La. 35 in Acadia Parish, troopers say.

Arif Mohammed, a first-year computer engineering major at Northeastern’s Oakland campus, was killed in a double hit-and-run Nov. 19, according to local reports. He was 18 years old. The fatal crash, which occurred just before 11 p.m. on Highway 13 in Oakland, California, began with the collision of a Zipcar Mohammed had rented and an unknown car that immediately drove away after the accident, according to several news reports. Following the initial crash, the Zipcar was disabled.

OLIVE TOWNSHIP, Mich. — The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says a pickup truck hit a man who was getting out of his car after a separate crash. Deputies responded 120th Avenue, just south of Port Sheldon Street, in Olive Township around 6 p.m. Saturday. Witnesses told them the pedestrian, a 53-year-old Zeeland man, had been in a crash just moments before. They say he pulled over, got out of the car and walked into the road when a 64-year-old from Hudsonville hit him.

AUGUSTA, Maine — A man from Kennebec County died Friday after he was hit by a truck on Interstate 95 in Augusta. Matthew Galletta, 55, of Manchester was standing in the right lane of I-95 southbound near Mile Marker 111 when he was struck by a pickup truck at about 5:20 a.m., Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release. Galletta’s vehicle was parked along the side of I-95, and an investigation is underway to determine why he was out of his vehicle and standing in the lane, Moss said.

PAXTON — A series of collisions involving a passenger vehicle and two semis on northbound Interstate 57 south of Paxton early Friday, Dec. 15, resulted in the driver of the passenger vehicle being taken to a local hospital with what state police said were life-threatening injuries. SCOTT COUNTY, Tenn. — The Tennessee Highway Patrol said a 65-year-old woman died Thursday after she was hit by an SUV. According to a preliminary report, Lisa Rosser stopped on the right shoulder of the northbound side of Scott Highway to get her phone, which had fallen off her vehicle into the southbound lane. While crossing the road, THP said she walked into the path of the SUV and was hit.

According to authorities, Ali Safar Navadeh, of Novato, was inside a vehicle that was disabled along the right shoulder on the southbound side of U.S. Highway 101 when another motorist failed to maintain control and crashed into his vehicle at approximately 5 p.m. Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures on Navadeh, but he sadly succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
