Lubbock man killed, struck by vehicle on I-27 while walking away from crash
LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - A Lubbock man has died after being struck by a vehicle Friday night, while walking away from a disabled vehicle on the I-27/U.S. 87 frontage road around 11:15 p.m. DPS says 30-year-old Brandon Guerrero was northbound on the Interstate, north of 98th Street, when he was involved in a minor single-vehicle crash in his 2018 Ford Escape. This left his vehicle disabled in the northbound lanes.

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. — One person was killed and multiple others were injured in a 10-vehicle pileup on Interstate 81 in Rockbridge County, Virginia Thursday evening during heavy rain and traffic. Abdiqadir Ahmed Nur, 36, of Shakopee, Minnesota, died when he drove into the back of several tractor trailers that were stopped due to heavy traffic. The crashes were reported at about 5:08 p.m. on the northbound side of Interstate 81 at the 181-mile marker.

ARLINGTON COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — One person is dead, and an officer was hurt after a vehicle struck an Arlington County police car during a traffic stop on Wednesday night. Around 9:40 p.m. on Sept. 24, the Arlington County police officer stopped a car on the left shoulder of Interstate 395. The officer’s vehicle was parked in the left lane with its emergency lights on. The car the officer stopped, a Toyota Corolla, was on the left shoulder.

BAKER COUNTY, OR – A Washington man survived nearly three days in a crashed vehicle before being discovered Monday morning in eastern Oregon. The Baker County Sheriff’s Office said dispatchers received a report of a motor vehicle crash at 9:38 a.m. on September 22 along Anthony Lakes Highway near Antelope Peak Road. Responding law enforcement, fire, and medical personnel found a 2009 Volkswagen Rabbit down an embankment. The driver, identified as 75-year-old Paul Bartholomew Schwinberg of Richland, Washington, was still in the vehicle.

COVINGTON, Ky. — A Covington police officer was taken to the hospital after he was hit while assisting another driver on I-71/75 Thursday night. It happened around 10:52 p.m. when a Covington officer responded to the highway for a disabled vehicle. Covington police say the officer was in his cruiser with his emergency lights on, blocking the right lane for the disabled vehicle when another car rear-ended the cruiser, pushing it nearly 150 feet.

A deadly crash on I-96 in Novi early Tuesday morning left two people dead. The crash occurred on I-96 near Beck Road. Investigators say one vehicle had broken down and was stopped in a lane of traffic when it was struck from behind by another vehicle. The impact caused both cars to burst into flames. Emergency crews arrived quickly but were unable to save either driver. Police confirm that only the two drivers were involved and that both died at the scene.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A Springfield driver died after another vehicle driver struck their disabled car in the Interstate 395 travel lanes last Saturday, according to Virginia State Police. The two-vehicle crash happened at 2:20 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20 on southbound Interstate 395 in the City of Alexandria. State police say 2008 Toyota Corolla crashed and became disabled in the southbound lanes near the three-mile marker. The crash was not reported to police.

A person is dead after a Sept. 5 collision on Interstate 265, according to a news release from Louisville Metro Police. LMPD responded to a report of an injury collision on I-265 near the Blue Lick Road overpass around 5:10 a.m. Sept. 5, spokesperson Aaron Ellis said. According to the news release, LMPD’s preliminary investigation indicates a vehicle driving northbound on I-265 had become disabled in the roadway. The driver, who has not been identified, got out and crossed to the shoulder.

A 2019 Volkswagen Jetta left the roadway for unknown reasons and hit a guide rail in the median, disabling in the left lane of US 15 North, according to the PSP. A 2019 Ram approached and could not stop, striking the Jetta from behind, pushing it across the median into the southbound lanes and down an embankment, investigators explained. The Jetta’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said. The Ram’s driver was treated for minor injuries on scene and later released, according to the report.

A 20-year-old man from Spring Hill, Florida, standing outside his disabled vehicle on International Speedway Boulevard west of Daytona Beach, was struck and killed on Sunday, Sept. 21, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The crash occurred at International Speedway Boulevard and Red John Drive around 8:50 p.m., investigating troopers said. The Spring Hill man’s disabled vehicle, a 1997 Ford F250 with an attached trailer, was stopped and partially blocking an outside lane.
