Man tending to broken down car hit, killed by big rig on I-5 in central California
A 74-year-old man tending to his broken down car on Interstate 5 in Fresno County was killed when he was hit by a big rig, the California Highway Patrol said Tuesday. The Myrtle Point, Oregon, man was working on the car on the right shoulder but standing within the roadway about 11 p.m. Monday on I-5 north of Jayne Avenue in Coalinga, CHP said. A Peterbilt truck driven by a 31-year-old Bakersfield man approached from behind, but the driver did not see the victim at the edge of the lane, the CHP said.

TOMS RIVER — A Lakehurst woman was killed after she hit a tire laying on the Garden State Parkway and lost control of her vehicle. New Jersey State Trooper Charles Marchan said Elaina S. Clarke, 46, hit the tire in the southbound lanes near the Toms River tolls with her Chevrolet Equinox around 5:30 a.m. The tire was in the road following a one-vehicle crash involving a Ford F-250 that was disabled in the center median.

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. – A child was killed in a multi-vehicle crash that closed eastbound Route 360 (Hull Street Road) in Chesterfield County Monday afternoon, according to Chesterfield Police. The crash happened near the intersection of Route 360 (Hull Street Road) and Route 603 (Skinquarter Road). “At about 2:20 p.m., police said, a 1999 Toyota sedan was traveling east on Hull Street Road when it struck a 2019 GMC pickup truck and camper that had pulled off Hull Street Road onto the right shoulder,” a Chesterfield Police spokesperson wrote in an email about the crash.

Investigators responded to the crash in the eastbound lanes of Interstate-435 and Blue River around 10 p.m. Police said a woman and a 5-year-old child were passengers in an SUV when it ran out of gas on the highway. The SUV stalled in a lane of traffic, but police said the driver put on the hazards.

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. – One driver was sent to the hospital with minor injuries following a crash on the Escambia Bay Bridge Saturday morning. The accident happened around 6:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-10 – blocking the roadway for a short period of time. According to Florida Highway Patrol, the accident involved three vehicles. One of the vehicles was disabled on the shoulder of the road. Troopers say a passing vehicle struck the disabled vehicle and rotated into the roadway.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is searching for a driver suspected of hitting and killing a 59-year-old man with his vehicle in Columbus Wednesday night. The crash happened on Fairwood Avenue, just south of Moler Road at 10:27 p.m. Alfred Wilkins, of Columbus, was driving a 2009 Ford F-150 while hauling a dump trailer south on Fairwood Avenue when the vehicle became disabled on the roadway. OSHP said Wilkins attempted to make repairs to his vehicle when a 2012 Honda Civic heading south on Fairwood Avenue struck Wilkins and the trailer.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Travelers were asked to detour around a portion of East D Avenue after a car crash closed the road Thursday morning. The crash happened between 28th Street and 30th Street near Richland when a driver rear-ended a semi-truck, according to Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office. The semi-truck had stopped on the road and was making a delivery at the time of the crash, deputies said. The driver was cut out of the car and taken to the hospital with serious injuries, deputies said.
