1 dead in I-65 crash involving tractor-trailer in Jefferson County
FULTONDALE, Ala. (WIAT) — A person was killed in a crash on I-65 northbound Saturday evening in Jefferson County. According to Fultondale Fire and Rescue Capt. Brad Cantrell, there was a two-vehicle wreck involving a sedan and tractor-trailer. Gayla Ingle, 27, of Florence, was killed in the crash when the vehicle she was driving struck the rear of a tractor-trailer that was parked on the shoulder of the interstate. Ingle was not using a seat-belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

WESTPORT, Conn. — A Bridgeport man was killed Saturday evening after he was struck by a car on Route 15 in Westport, Connecticut State Police said. State police said troopers, along with a medical crew and the fire department, responded around 10:38 p.m. to a report of a one-car crash in the area of Route 15 south, just before exit 42. Troopers reportedly found a 2016 Toyota Corolla stopped in the middle of two lanes, and a 2021 Infiniti Q50 along the right shoulder with the front of the car against the wood beam guardrail, state police said.

HATLEY — One person died Saturday night in a Marathon County crash. The crash occurred at about 8:40 p.m. on State 29, at State 49, near Hatley. According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, a GMC Envoy headed west on 29 rear-ended a parked straight truck, a GMC W4500, which appeared to have been disabled. The driver of the Envoy — Amanda Lynn Smrcina, 40, of Hatley — died at the scene.

Fort Worth police need help to track down whoever struck and killed a stranded driver and then kept going. It happened near DFW Airport on one of the busiest travel days of the year. The victim has been identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office as 57-year-old Susan Simmons. It’s unclear if she was at the airport or just passing through on International Parkway. Police say the vehicle she was installed on International Parkway near Highway 183 last night around 8 o’clock.

GREENWOOD COUNTY, S.C. — The South Carolina Highway Patrol has released new details following a deadly crash involving three vehicles. Troopers say the collision happened around 4:40 p.m. on Highway 221 near Greenwood Mills Farm Road. According to troopers, a 2006 Ford F-150 was disabled and partially in the roadway on the southbound side of U.S. 221. A pedestrian was trying to refuel the Ford’s gas tank, but both the pedestrian and the Ford were struck by a 2010 Nissan Altima, according to troopers.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A 56-year-old woman died after being hit by a vehicle on the side of the road on I-435, after first being involved in an initial crash with separate vehicle Friday morning. The Platte County Sheriff’s Office release details of the double vehicle crash. Near 6:30 a.m., a woman driving a white 2006 Toyota Corolla was rear-ended by a white 2016 Chrysler Pacifica. Both vehicles pulled to the side of the highway to exchange information.

At least one person has been hospitalized after a multi-car crash caused by the slick pavement on the 101 Freeway in Universal City. The crash was reported at around 10:10 p.m. near the Lankershim Boulevard off-ramp on the southbound lanes of the freeway, according to California Highway Patrol. Officers say the the incident happened when one car spun out due to the rain-soaked road before slamming into the center divider.

Two men who were stopped on the side of a North Carolina highway to help a driver who crashed into a ditch were killed, authorities say. Dr. Roger McMurray, 45 and Gregory Harman, 53, had separately pulled over on Sunday Dec. 17 to help a driver who went off the road and into a ditch at around 12:30 p.m. on the south bound lane of I-87, the N.C. State Highway Patrol said.

Authorities released a summary of their initial findings following the accident, which they say happened on the north service road of I-20 just east of Monahans. According to officials, 61-year-old Freddy Antonio Arias was identified as the operator of a tractor-trailer which somehow got stuck in sand along north side shoulder of the service road.

MCBAIN — The Missaukee County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help identifying a driver involved in a hit-and-run that happened on Monday around 4:25 p.m. in McBain. Deputies were called to Stoney Corners west of Cherry Street in McBain on Monday. They say it all started when a car went into the ditch due to snowy roads. A 51-year-old McBain woman stopped to check on the driver. Deputies say she was standing next to her car when another car driving east hit her.
