Livermore: Driver standing on freeway after solo crash killed after big-rig hits his car
A Tracy man who was standing next to his car after an initial crash died after an approaching semi-truck struck him and his sedan on Interstate 580 in unincorporated Livermore on Wednesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol. The situation began unfolding at about 6:45 a.m. when a gray 2007 Toyota Corolla traveling on I-580 eastbound in the No. 5 lane drifted to the right and crashed against the yellow attenuator barrels on the right shoulder east of Greenville Road in Livermore, according to CHP Officer Tyler Hahn.

MONROE COUNTY, Illinois — The driver of a passenger car died early Monday morning when the car crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer along Interstate 255 in Monroe County. Illinois State Police said the crash happened at about 2:20 a.m. Monday in the southbound lanes of I-255 near milepost 5.5. ISP said the tractor-trailer was parked on the right shoulder when the car struck it from behind. The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

In the early morning of Wednesday, July 12, a Greyhound bus traveling west on I-70 struck three tractor trailers parked on the offramp near the Silver Lake rest area in Highland, Illinois. The crash tragically killed three passengers on the Greyhound and injured 14 more. None of the three truck occupants were injured. That same day, a team from the National Transportation Safety Board arrived to investigate the crash, but to many in trucking, the story sounds all too familiar.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A man was arrested after investigators say he fled from the scene of a hit-and-run that killed a 66-year-old man in West Palm Beach. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) says the crash occurred on Saturday at 2:58 a.m. The victim was standing on the outside paved shoulder of northbound I-95, just north of Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard. Investigators say the victim’s car became disabled and he was waiting for assistance on the side of the road.

SAN DIEGO — The man fatally struck on the northbound Interstate 805 on Friday has been identified by the San Diego Medical Examiner’s office. Richard Anthony Rollo, a 61-year-old resident of San Diego, was named by authorities as the deceased. Next of kin has been notified. The incident occurred around 12 p.m., California Highway Patrol said on Friday. Rollo had pulled over to the shoulder of the I-805 after getting involved in a minor, property damage-only crash with a Freightliner semi-truck.

A fatal crash overnight shut down Interstate 40 in Durham for hours early Monday. Police are still searching for a semi-truck involved in the crash. At about 12:45 a.m. Monday, a man tried to cross I-40 to get to his car, which had run out of gas near Exit 273, Durham police said in a news release. Police identified the man as 44-year-old Benito Briones, of Carrboro. An SUV going west on I-40 first hit Briones, then he was hit by a semi-truck, according to the Durham Police Department.

LAKE COUNTY, Ind. — The Indiana State Police are investigating after a deadly crash on I-65 southbound in Lake County claimed the life of a Wheatfield woman. ISP said troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on I-65 on Sunday just after 10 a.m. This was on the southbound exit ramp to 61st Avenue. Preliminary information from the investigation shows that a Honda was traveling south at a high rate of speed in the far-left lane.

LIBERTY TWP., Ohio (WKBN) — Three people were sent to the hospital after an SUV rear-ended a semi-truck early Saturday morning. The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the side of I-80 westbound around 2 a.m. Saturday morning after an SUV rear-ended a semi-truck. The SUV sustained fairly heavy damage to its front and had to be towed from the scene. Two adults and one child were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal crash in Carroll County. The crash occurred July 25, 2023, at 2:54 p.m. on Interstate 77 at the 9 mile marker. A 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck was traveling north on I-77 when it experienced a tire blowout. The vehicle pulled to the left shoulder, but was still partially in the left travel lane. A 2002 Toyota Sequoia was traveling north on I-77 when it came upon the disabled vehicle and swerved to the left to avoid striking the Dodge.

SELMA, Texas — Selma Police say two accidents during the morning rush hour resulted in a 10-car pile-up Thursday morning on I-35 at Olympia on the northeast side of San Antonio. The incidents were reported just after 7 a.m. at Exit 173 on I-35, causing traffic to back up all the way to Exit 168 at Weidener Road. Officials say eight to ten vehicles were involved in the crash, which only left one lane open to moving traffic.
