Man, woman killed overnight in separate New Orleans highway accidents, NOPD says
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Two people were killed in separate pre-dawn highway accidents, New Orleans police said Saturday (Oct. 22). The first fatal wreck occurred around 12:12 a.m. on the westbound Pontchartrain Expressway (US 90B) at the Claiborne Avenue exit. Police said responding officers found a taxi cab had crashed into the left-side guard rail. The 44-year-old man driving the cab was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy will determine whether the driver died in the crash, or from a medical emergency that preceded the wreck.

ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) – A single-vehicle rollover led to a second crash early Saturday morning that left two people dead, two more in the hospital and a portion of Interstate 70 temporarily closed. Colorado State Patrol received reports around 3:10 a.m. regarding the crashes that happened on I-70 at East Colfax Avenue and Frontage Road. Here is a breakdown of these three crashes, according to CSP. Colorado State Patrol told FOX31 that the initial crash involved a 2006 Infiniti that had four occupants.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The northbound side of the Buckman Bridge was shut down for hours during Friday morning’s rush hour because of a fiery crash involving two tractor-trailers and a box truck. The box truck was carrying industrial cleaners, and because firefighters used water to douse the blaze, the city’s biohazard team was called in to make sure the hazardous material didn’t run off into the St. Johns River, according to a Jacksonville Fire and Rescue spokesperson.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 3-year-old girl died Wednesday night after she was struck by a car while walking on J. Turner Butler Boulevard, according to Florida Highway Patrol. It happened just before 8 p.m. on eastbound JTB between Kernan Boulevard and Hodges Boulevard. FHP said the child was inside a disabled SUV on the right shoulder before she got out of the vehicle and wandered onto the roadway where she was hit by a car.

A woman from Statesville who had been reported missing was found deceased Wednesday in a wrecked 2003 Lexus RX300 SUV in the Brushy Mountain community, said Trooper Zach Jennings of the N.C. Highway Patrol. Emergency personnel found the body of Barbara Houser Bellamy, 74, in the driver’s seat of the overturned Lexus after the Wilkes Communications Center received a call at 10:32 a.m. about a vehicle being seen wrecked down an embankment along Brushy Mountain Road, with a person inside.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Authorities on Thursday released the name of the driver killed in the second crash on Interstate 5 in Linn County near Albany. Oregon State Police said 63-year-old Kirpal Singh of Yuba City, Calif. was driving southbound in a semi-truck when he allegedly hit another semi-truck that was stopped for an earlier crash. Police said the truck driven by Singh caught fire and caused a chain reaction rear-ending which involved a Nissan Armada and a Ford Focus.

HANCOCK COUNTY — An Indianapolis man died after being struck by a driver while he was walking toward an Amazon facility from a semi-truck he had parked in the middle of the road, police say. Harvail Singh, 66, died after he was hit by the driver of a second semi headed westbound almost immediately after he exited his vehicle, which was parked in a two-way turn lane on County Road 300 North outside the facility, according to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.

The Federal Highway Police deduced that her vehicle flipped over after plummeting off a cliff on the side of the road with no foul play suspected.
