St. Paul teacher dies in vehicle accident Friday
A teacher at a St. Paul charter school was struck and killed by a passing driver Friday, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. Alexa Hokeness, 29, of Lakeville, was a special-education teacher at the Hmong College Prep Academy. At about 5 p.m. Friday, Hokeness was driving on state Highway 64 near the central Minnesota town of Motley. She stopped her car, got out and was in the northbound lane when hit by a car driven by Leland Baldwin, 69, of Ramsey.

ST. LOUIS — Although the pandemic has forced many to work from home and stay off the roads, St. Louis and state officials say more people have died in automobile crashes in 2020 than in recent years. St. Louis police reported 73 fatal wrecks in the city as of Tuesday. Twenty-two of those involved pedestrian deaths. Last year there were 56 deaths in St. Louis, including 14 who were pedestrians. And in the year before that there were 49 deaths, with 17 of those killed being pedestrians.

A tractor-trailer driver was injured after hitting another tractor-trailer parked on the side of a stretch of the New York State Thruway in Westchester. The incident took place around 1 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 13, in Yonkers, said the New York State Police. According to the state police, the injured driver, who had been extricated, was traveling northbound on I-87 in Yonkers when the vehicle hit another tractor-trailer parked on the shoulder.

HOPKINSVILLE, KY (WSMV) - A Clarksville, TN man was killed after being struck by a vehicle after exiting his disabled car on the Pennyrile Parkway on Saturday night, according to the Kentucky State Police. The KSP said Navarro Shoan Mitchell Jr., 21, of Clarksville, exited his disabled car near mile marker 17 after it became disabled in the median. Mitchell exited his car and crossed both northbound lanes to speak with someone who was parked on the northbound shoulder.

BOYNTON BEACH — A 60-year-old Lake Worth Beach woman died early Sunday when a tractor-trailer struck her car on Florida’s Turnpike just south of the Boynton Beach Boulevard exit, the Florida Highway Patrol said Monday. The crash took place just after 5:15 a.m. in the southbound lanes at mile marker 86. Its cause remains under investigation, FHP said.The woman’s sedan had stopped in the outside lane just before the tractor-trailer struck and partially ran over it, FHP said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A pedestrian was hit and killed by a vehicle on Interstate 295 and Old St. Augustine Road on Saturday night. The pedestrian, an adult male, was in the shoulder lane next to his disabled vehicle when he stepped directly in front of an oncoming vehicle for unknown reasons. The pedestrian lunged for the ground, and the vehicle’s underside collided with him.The pedestrian was fatally injured as a result.

A Nissan Rogue struck a Volkswagen Jetta that was disabled on the highway, according to police. The driver of the Volkswagen was outside of her vehicle, near the front, when the crash happened. Officials said due to the impact, the driver of the Volkswagen was thrown into the northbound lanes of IH-35, where she was hit by a passing car. Officials said 21-year-old Karla Barraza, of University City, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Illinois State Police are investigating a crash that killed a woman Wednesday night on I-94 near Bannockburn. According to police, the woman’s car broke down in the center lane and was hit by a semi-tractor-trailer truck around 10:04 p.m. in the eastbound lanes.Marizol Davila, 25, of Round Lake Beach, was taken to a hospital, but died. Police said Saturday they don’t know why Davila’s vehicle was disabled. The investigation is ongoing.

HENDERSON, Ky. (WFIE) - Kentucky State Police say there was a three-vehicle fatal collision on Thursday around 6:15 p.m. It happened in the 2600 block of US 60 West near Henderson Community College. Troopers say 23-year-old Christian T. Flint of Morganfield was heading west on US 60 when he ran off the right shoulder of the roadway and struck a guardrail. Troopers believe his 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt redirected back onto the roadway where he hit a 2008 Mazda driven by 52-year-old Chiemi Cheatham of Morganfield.
