Good Samaritan helping stranded driver loses leg after car runs him down and takes off
BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – Jonathan Patterson said it was just in his nature to help a complete stranger on the side of the road earlier this month. “It’s just what good people do. It’s what humans should do,” he said. But in the blink of an eye, his life forever changed after a hit-and-run driver struck him on the street, severing the lower part of his leg. A Statesville man died early Sunday morning in a hit-and-run crash on Chestnut Grove Road at Beechwood Farm Road. Robert Bruce Selvey, 55, of Statesville, died at the scene, said Sgt. Chad Crouse of the North Carolina Highway Patrol. He said Selvey’s 2004 Buick Lesabre apparently broke down and was sitting sideways in the road. Selvey, Crouse said, was either sitting in his car or standing outside of it when a 2011 Ford F-150 struck the Buick and also hit Selvey.

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — A Florida man is dead after a three-vehicle accident on I-77 in Fairfield County on Thursday night, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol (SCHP). Christopher Estevez, 54, of Melrose, Florida, died on the scene after the van he was driving collided with a tractor trailer and was then hit by another car. Troopers say the accident happened around 9:10 p.m. Thursday night on I-77 South near mile marker 48, seven miles east of Winnsboro.

A motorcyclist was seriously injured early this morning after crashing into a disabled vehicle in an I-80/94 through-lane in Lake County, the Indiana State Police said. According to police, at 12 a.m. a three-vehicle accident in the eastbound lanes of I-80/94 at the 4 mile marker left one of the vehicles disabled in the far left lane. The other two vehicles succeeded in stopping on the shoulder out of traffic.

A Summerfield man was at the wheel of a pickup that struck and killed a man who was inspecting a flat tire Thursday night by the side of the road in Marion County. Th 32-year-old had been traveling northbound at 8:50 p.m. on County Road 475 when his pickup hit the 31-year-old Puerto Rican man who had stopped to examine the flat tire of the vehicle in which he had been traveling, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers say Hargis swerved to avoid a car that was stopped on West Farm Road 102 Wednesday afternoon. The car hit a tree and a utility pole after it ran off the road. A 16-year-old passenger wasn’t hurt.

LAKE CITY — A Lake City teen was in serious condition after being struck by a vehicle late Tuesday. Jack Thomas Bremer, 18, of Lake City, was driving south on U.S. 61 north of Lake City at 11:16 p.m. Tuesday when his vehicle left the roadway and came to rest in the southbound shoulder of the road. Bremer got out of his car and was then struck by a vehicle driven by Lia Marie Safe, 41, of Mazeppa, who was also driving south on Highway 61, according to a Minnesota State Patrol report.

GARVIN COUNTY, Okla. (KFOR) – The driver of a tractor-trailer died Tuesday after crashing into a tractor-trailer parked on the shoulder of Interstate 35 in Garvin County; the impact caused the second tractor-trailer to hit two pedestrians. The name of the deceased tractor-trailer driver has not yet been released by Oklahoma Highway Patrol. That driver was behind the wheel of a 2017 Freightliner, heading south on I-35, according to an OHP news release.

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. – Broward Sheriff’s Office traffic homicide detectives are searching for the driver who seriously injured a Good Samaritan last week who was helping out another whose car had become disabled in Oakland Park. The hit-and-run crash was reported around 12:15 a.m. Wednesday in the eastbound lanes of East Cypress Creek Road at North Dixie Highway. Deputies said the victim, James Patterson, was helping the driver whose car broke down when he was struck by a vehicle similar to a 2013-2016 Lexus GS 350.

PLANT CITY, Fla. - A 21-year-old man was killed shortly after midnight on Sunday after being hit by a car on Interstate 4, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said the man stopped in the median of I-4 to help move a pickup truck that had been involved in a crash along westbound I-4 near County Line Road. As the man was walking to the vehicle a car traveling westbound on I-4 hit and killed him before colliding with a guardrail.
