Teen Who Pulled Woman From Fiery Car Crash Recognized For Heroic Actions
DECATUR, Ind. (CBS Local) — An Indiana teenager is being hailed as a hero after saving a woman’s life following a fiery car crash. Jeb Richey, 16, said he was riding in a car with his mom and some friends on U.S. 27 in Adams County on Aug. 3 when it screeched to a halt to avoid a driver stopped in the left lane. “We were in the fast lane and they [the driver] were just stopped, not pulled off to the shoulder or into grass.

A Good Samaritan who stopped to aid victims in a Long Island crash early Monday was fatally struck by another vehicle as she tried to help, police said. The chaos began when a 2005 Toyota was rear-ended by a 2002 Toyota on Suffolk Ave. near Casement Ave in Islandia about 5:40 a.m., Suffolk County police said. Jennifer Burgess, 36, stopped to help the motorists involved. When two cars hit the newer-model Toyota, Burgess stepped into traffic to avoid that collision and wound up hit by a 2018 Honda, police said.

The Kansas Highway Patrol has identified the man who died in a crash Sunday morning near Lawrence. David Lee Woelfle, 50, of Lino Lakes, Minn., died after his car hit a deer and a second vehicle crashed into him. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol crash logs, the crash occurred about 2:05 a.m. in Douglas county. Woelfle was traveling east when he hit a deer, lost control of his car and struck the barrier wall.

ST. LUCIE COUNTY — A woman standing next to a vehicle on Interstate 95 was hit and killed early Sunday morning. The crash happened at 2:45 a.m. on I-95 about a mile south of Okeechobee Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Marie Moreno, 67, of Palm City, was standing next to a Toyota Solara that was stopped in the center lane of the interstate.

A 35-year-old woman was reported in critical condition Monday after being hit by a semi truck Sunday evening. Police said the woman was exchanging information with another driver around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, after a collision on a stretch of Highway 16 just outside Lashburn, Sask. An approaching semi was unable to swerve around the crash scene, hitting both vehicles and the woman, who was reportedly standing on the roadway at the time.

A driver who had pulled over his disabled car and may have been flagging down help was hit by another vehicle Thursday night at the junction of Highway 18 and Interstate 90 near Snoqualmie, according to the Washington State Patrol. A man was fatally injured and a second seriously hurt when their disabled vehicle was hit by another vehicle Thursday morning on Interstate 57 near Interstate 80 as they tried to put gas in their car in Country Club Hills, state police said. The two people were trying to put gas in their car on northbound I-57 when the vehicle, and possibly the two people, were struck by another vehicle from behind, according to a news release from Illinois State Police.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman who stopped to help after another driver struck and killed two horses on U.S. 301 was hit and killed after she got out of her car, the Florida Highway Patrol said. According to the FHP report, a Toyota 4Runner was headed south on 301 in the Nassau County area when it hit two horses standing in the southbound lanes of the highway. The horses died from their injuries, troopers said.
