Driver flees after hitting man standing on side of Howard Frankland, troopers say
TAMPA — A 19-year-old man from Sioux City, Iowa, was struck and killed by a vehicle while standing on the side of the Howard Frankland Bridge on Thursday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. A pick-up truck towing a trailer drifted onto the shoulder and struck the man as he stood along the fog line of the northbound shoulder just before 1 p.m., troopers said. He was a passenger in a vehicle that had broken down and was examining it when he was hit.

CARLOCK, Ill. (WMBD) — The McLean County Coroners Office released information Wednesday on the pedestrian fatally struck by a truck on I-74 Tuesday. McLean County Coroner Dr. Kathy Yoder identified the victim as 57-year-old Richard E. Gaunt, Jr., of Morton. An investigation from the Illinois State Police (ISP) determined that the driver was traveling eastbound on I-74. Gaunt was outside his vehicle on the right shoulder at milepost 125. He was securing the load on top of his vehicle.

HOUSTON – A good Samaritan jumped into action to help rescue two women trapped in a car following a pair of crashes in northwest Houston. Police said those crashes happened on Wednesday off Highway 290 and Antoine at around 12:30 a.m.A man said he initially got out to help a box truck that had rolled over after possibly being hit by a black car. That’s when the good Samaritan said he saw a white Jeep that appeared to be speeding slam right into the back of the black car.

MARKSVILLE, La. - Five people died in a three-vehicle crash Monday on La Highway 29 in Avoyelles Parish. Six were injured. Two residents of Ville Platte and one from Eunice were among those killed in the crash. State police said the crash happened at around 11:30 a.m. Six were injured. Troopers said a pickup, driven by Derrick D. Kyle Jr., 21, of Cottonport, was northbound when his vehicle crossed the center line and hit van head-on.

An 11-year-old boy was killed in a crash Tuesday morning after a box truck slammed into a disabled vehicle in the southbound lane of U.S. 61, State Police said. The driver of the truck, Treasure Charles, 27, has been arrested. Officials identified the boy as Wayne Ford of Baton Rouge, saying he was unrestrained in the back seat of a Lexus sedan that was disabled due to engine failure when the crash occurred.

ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. — A man was killed in a crash on Interstate 70 near the border of St. Charles and Warren counties. The wreck happened at about 1:21 p.m. in the westbound lanes in Foristell, Missouri. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 86-year-old Raymond Moore, of Warrenton, was speeding and tried to pass a vehicle by using the right shoulder. He then hit a tractor-trailer that was parked on the shoulder, the highway patrol said.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Authorities were investigating a vehicle / pedestrian accident Monday evening. First responders were called just before 8 p.m. to SE 6th near Rice Rd. Topeka Police say a van was stalled in the median, with several people trying to change a tire. TPD says a semi tractor was following a vehicle in the eastbound traffic lane. The vehicle stopped to offer assistance, causing the semi tractor to swerve and hit the van, which then hit two of the people.

A father and his 4-year-old son were killed Saturday night as they tried to cross North Freeway in Spring, authorities said. The father was driving southbound on Interstate 45 near FM 1960 when their black Jeep SUV spun out of control and careened into the median around 9:30 p.m., said Lt. Simon Chang of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. Witnesses told investigators that the pair emerged from their vehicle and attempted to cross the lanes when they were struck by a silver Toyota sedan driving on the freeway.

COOK COUNTY, Ill. — The Ilinois State Police (ISP) is investigating two crashes that happened at the same location within minutes of each other. The crashes happened on I-94 southbound in Cook County around 12:30 A.M. on Sunday. According to ISP, Francisco Carreno, Jr.,34, of Chicago was driving a 2001 Infiniti QX4 when he lost control of the car, swerved left, hit the concrete median wall, and overturned into the roadway.
