Driver hit, killed on I-40 shoulder in Asheville
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WSPA) – A driver was killed Sunday morning when they pulled onto the shoulder and were hit by a passing vehicle on Interstate 40 in Asheville. The Asheville Police Department said 35-year-old Carlos Alfredo Amaya-Segovia pulled onto the right shoulder near mile marker 51 on I-40 when his 2008 Ford F-250 truck experienced a mechanical failure while towing a trailer. According to the police department, around 7:36 a.m., a 2021 Ford F-450 truck also towing a trailer and traveling eastbound attempted to change lanes and hit Amaya-Segovia’s disabled vehicle.

NEWPORT, Ky. — A person has died and two others have been hospitalized after a crash on the Daniel Carter Beard Bridge early Sunday morning, according to Newport police. Officials say it happened around 3:40 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-471. Authorities say a vehicle was broken down in the far right lane, and a person stopped behind it to offer assistance. While pushing the disabled vehicle, police say a car struck the back of the vehicle, pushing the pedestrian into the vehicle they were assisting.

Suffolk County Police Major Case Unit detectives are investigating a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Melville yesterday afternoon. Nadil Ceka was looking at a disabled vehicle while standing on the shoulder of southbound Bagatelle Road, south of Dix Woods Drive, when he was struck by a vehicle that left the scene at approximately 1:10 p.m. The vehicle, possibly a gray Hyundai, fled southbound on Bagatelle Road. Ceka, 58, of Brooklyn, was transported via ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for treatment of serious but not life-threatening injuries.

One person is dead after they were struck assisting a disabled vehicle in the northbound lanes of I-55 in Joliet. Illinois State Police were called to the scene of the crash, near Route 30, for a crash with injuries involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, they found the struck pedestrian near the crash. They were transported to University of Chicago Bolingbrook hospital, where they were pronounced dead. They have been identified by the Will County Coroner as 30-year-old Bosimbek Khazratkulov of Aurora.

Scottsdale, AZ (July 6, 2025) – Medics and fire crews worked to assist those suffering from injuries after a serious crash occurred Saturday afternoon on the southbound lanes of Loop 101 near Shea Blvd in Scottsdale. The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported that the collision happened shortly after 1 p.m. and involved a disabled vehicle that was struck by another car. According to DPS, the initial vehicle had stopped functioning on the freeway before being hit by a second vehicle traveling southbound.

A woman from South Carolina has died and another person was injured after a car crash in Cleburne County Sunday morning. Elizabeth E. Melton, 74, died after her vehicle struck another car and a tractor-trailer hit her car at about 7:23 a.m. Sunday. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, about two miles east of Heflin, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Melton, of Summerville, S.C., was driving a 2024 Buick Encore when she hit a 2019 Land Rover Discovery, driven by James Johnson, 65, of Covington, GA, according to the agency.

An 87-year-old man lost his life while attempting to save a turtle on Florida’s Interstate 95 during the Fourth of July weekend. The Vermont native was traveling on I-95 through Indian River County when he spotted a turtle on the busy highway shortly before 4:30 p.m., local time Sunday, July 6, according to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol shared with PEOPLE. The man stopped his vehicle on the right shoulder of the highway and began walking east across the southbound lanes.

Motorists traveling southbound on Interstate 25 through Denver were guided off the highway following a death Saturday morning. A Denver Police Department spokesperson confirmed the fatality occurred sometime around 7 a.m., and involved a person working on their broken-down vehicle. That person was changing a flat tire on the right shoulder just north of the Alameda Avenue exit. They were struck and killed by another vehicle which fled the scene.
