‘Heartbroken’ | Tributes pour in for fallen Jefferson County deputy Heather Avery
BEAUMONT, Texas — A reserve deputy constable from Jefferson County was killed Friday morning after a Mack truck struck the rear of her patrol vehicle while she was conducting traffic control on Interstate 10 near Winnie, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Authorities identified the deputy as Heather Avery, 48, of the Jefferson County Precinct One Constable’s Office. The crash occurred at approximately 7:41 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 near the 830-mile marker in Chambers County.

(KTIV) - Authorities are saying a dust storm along a major interstate contributed to 12 vehicles being involved in a crash in Southeast South Dakota The state’s Department of Public Safety says the crash was located five miles north of the town of Beresford on Interstate 29. They say the crashes happened at about 5:20 p.m., when there was a dust storm in the area, creating “extremely limited visibility” around mile marker 54, just south of the Fairview exit.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - An Illinois State Police squad car was struck by another driver Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 55, marking the agency’s ninth Move Over Law-related crash of 2026. The backstory: The crash happened around 12:40 p.m. along northbound I-55 near East Lake Shore Drive (milepost 88) in Springfield. According to ISP, a trooper had pulled over onto the shoulder to conduct a commercial vehicle inspection on a semi-truck. The squad car’s emergency lights were on, and the trooper was outside the vehicle inspecting the truck.

According to a friend who posted the fundraiser, “Jesse” was helping someone stranded in a SUV at 26 Mile Rd. and County Line Rd. when he was hit by the trailer, breaking his arm and pelvic area. He was flung across the road as his wife and daughter witnessed it all.

At around 10:30 p.m. on April 18, a Chevrolet pickup that was changing lanes struck a Chevrolet SUV, which then struck a jersey wall. The SUV was then struck by a Toyota Camry.

The incident occurred just before 6:00 am, on Monday morning. Greene County Sheriff Brady Snyder said Sergeant Colby Drope was assisting a tractor-trailer driver that was having mechanical issues on Highway 49 northbound between Paragould and Marmaduke when he was struck by a passing motorist.

Bowie resident Mijah Smith was the sole occupant of a BMW SUV that was involved in a fatal crash in Prince George’s County late on Monday night, according to Maryland State Police. Investigators say shortly before 10:15 p.m. on April 13, Smith was driving on the interstate near Maryland 704 when, for unknown reasons, she traveled off the roadway, struck a barrier, and the vehicle became inoperable between the shoulder and left lane.
