Semi-truck driver hit and killed by oncoming truck while checking load on I-17
PHOENIX — A man is dead after he was hit by a truck while on the side of Interstate 17 Friday morning. Around 8 a.m. Friday, a semi-truck driver pulled off from the northbound lanes of I-17 north of the Happy Valley Road exit. The driver was securing his load on the right side of the road when a passing pickup truck struck him, Arizona DPS said. The man died at the scene, officers said.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A car fatally struck a 31-year-old man early Thursday as he was trying to change a tire on Interstate 805 in North Park. The San Diego resident was standing next to his disabled vehicle in the far right-hand southbound lane of the freeway north of Adams Avenue when the Toyota Camry hit him shortly after 3 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. The victim, whose name was withheld pending family notification, died at the scene, CHP public-affairs Officer Jesse Matias said.

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. - Police in Clayton County are searching for the hit-and-run driver that struck two people — a man and a woman — both trying to assist another driver whose car flipped over on I-75 northbound near Tara Blvd. last month. Authorities say the driver of that car plowed into the two Good Samaritans on September 18 just after 5 a.m. as they tried to assist a man who was pinned inside his car.

THOMPSON — Authorities are investigating after a woman was struck and killed Tuesday evening by a tractor-trailer on Interstate-395. State police said the commercial truck was heading south on the highway in the right lane when the driver saw two vehicles up ahead that were pulled over in the shoulder with their hazard lights activated. State police said 33-year-old Rebecca C Domas, of Woburn, Mass., had crashed a 2018 Subaru Impreza into about 150 feet of the wire guardrail and posts in the left shoulder.

HOUSTON - An elderly man was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Saturday in southeast Houston. The Houston Police Department reported that at 10000 La Porte Highway (SH 225) near Gulfgate around 6 a.m., a red Toyota Corolla driven by a 76-year-old man was disabled with its hazard lights on in the main lanes. A witness told police that a white Kia Optima was going eastbound on the freeway and hit the back of the Corolla.

ST. CLAIR COUNTY — Illinois State Police are looking for help identifying a driver who struck and killed a woman alongside Interstate 55 near Cahokia Mounds on Saturday night. The incident happened at about 8:50 p.m. along southbound 55 at milepost 8. The woman was getting into her disabled vehicle parked on the right shoulder when she was struck by a semi-trailer truck, police said. It did not stop and was last seen going south on the interstate.

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A motorcyclist from Leesburg is dead after being thrown from his vehicle in a crash on Saturday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The 57-year-old Leesburg man was driving his Harley Davidson northbound on County Road 473 when a Toyota Tacoma driven by a 59-year-old Leesburg man driving southbound on County Road 473 attempted to make a left turn into gas station parking lot, traveling into the path of the motorcycle, troopers said.

MONROE – A motorist, who was standing on the side of Route 17 eastbound in the Town of Monroe, was struck and killed by a passing car Saturday morning, State Police said. Preliminary investigation revealed that Garfield Elliot, 47, of New Rochelle, was involved in a vehicle crash at about 6:16 a.m. where he was the driver of one of the vehicles. Elliot got out of his car in the center median of Route 17 and stepped into the roadway where he was struck by a 2018 Volkswagen that was traveling east.

Provincial police say around 4:45 a.m. there was a minor collision involving two vehicles in the westbound collector lanes of Highway 401 just past Dixie Road. As the two drivers pulled off to the left hand shoulder of the highway, a third vehicle approached in the express lanes and stopped to speak with the drivers involved in the original crash.
