Long Island driver stopped to inspect car damage after fatal hit-and-run, police say
LONG ISLAND (PIX11) — A hit-and-run driver stopped to check his vehicle’s damage after he allegedly struck and killed a 61-year-old man on the Long Island Expressway last week, police said. Robert Twiford had parked his car on the offramp at exit 60 on the eastbound Long Island Expressway and got out of the car when he was struck on Dec. 5 at around 8 p.m., police said. The victim was taken to the hospital, where he died.

JEFFERSON, MO, (December 14, 2022) - Terrence Ruck was seriously injured on Dec. 14 when he was hit by his disabled vehicle after it was struck by another driver on Interstate 55 in Jefferson County. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), Ruck was standing next to his Honda CRV at about 12:51 a.m. when it was struck by a Ford F-150 driven by a 48-year-old man. The door of the CRV then hit Ruck, 73, who was transported to Mercy Hospital South for treatment of his injuries.

PERRYSBURG TWP., Ohio (WTVG) - One person is dead after a crash on the Ohio turnpike Wednesday morning. Evgeny Zolotarev, 61, was driving westbound in a Sprinter van when he veered off the right side of the roadway and struck a commercial tractor trailer. Zolotarev was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The crash occurred near mile marker 67.7 in Perrysburg Township. OSHP said the 49-year-old commercial truck driver from Toledo was not injured in the crash.

WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Three people are injured after a crash on I-10 near mile marker 70 in Walton County. According to Florida Highway Patrol troopers a tractor trailer was traveling west on I-10 and another car was broken down on the side of the road. Troopers say the tractor trailer drifted off the roadway hitting the car on the side of the road. Reports show a third car traveling behind the trailer was hit by flying debris.

Fort Worth, TX. (December 14, 2022)- 27-year-old Vanessa Jane Amend was killed in an auto-pedestrian crash on December 4, 2022, in Fort Worth, Texas. The accident occurred just before 3:30 a.m. on Texas 183 at the Texas 360 on-ramp. Police reported that Amend had exited her disabled vehicle when she was struck by an unknown westbound Ford Mustang. Amend was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford fled the scene of the crash.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A 79-year-old man died last week after being hit by a vehicle while standing by his disabled van on I-15, according to Nevada Highway Patrol. Just before 9 p.m. on Dec. 4, John Fridlund was driving a Chevrolet van that became disabled and pulled onto the right shoulder of the road on southbound I-15 near mile marker 104, according to a Tuesday news release. While the victim was standing in front of the van as it sat on the right shoulder, an unknown vehicle being driven by an unknown suspect was traveling southbound on I-15, approaching the disabled van, police said.

Queens, NY (December 13, 2022) – A man who exited his vehicle after being involved in a fender-bender in Queens was severely injured. Reports concerning the incident say he may lose his leg due to being struck by a hit-and-run driver after getting out of his car. Police reported that the 20-year-old man was hit on the Cross Island Parkway at around 11:40 p.m. on Monday, December 12. Reports indicate the man was involved in a minor accident while driving his yellow Ford Escape north on the parkway, approaching the Long Island Expressway exit.

According to the Arkansas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred at about 6 p.m. when a 61-year-old man stopped his Chevy Equinox in the left lane for unknown reasons. At that time, authorities said, the Equinox was struck by a westbound Chevy Tahoe.

The patrol reports Matthew O’Neill had been in a collision and his VW Rabbit was disabled in a southbound lane of the interstate.
