Driver in fatal crash disputes claim vehicle was on shoulder of I-15 when struck by semi
FARR WEST, Utah (KUTV) — A young man at the wheel of a car that hit a deer, and then was struck at full speed by a semi, is disputing a trucker’s account of the crash that killed three members of his family. Damien Hanchor said his son David, 19, told him that after his car hit the animal, he pulled all the way off the road, and had his lights on, when the semi came from behind and slammed into his car.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - Police are on the scene of a deadly crash involving a pedestrian on a DeKalb County Road Thursday morning. The DeKalb County Police Department has confirmed that the fatal collision happened around 5:20 a.m. on Turner Hill Road at Covington Highway. Officials believe the victim’s car was disabled and the victim was in the road when he was struck. The identity of the victim has not been released.

LIVERMORE — The driver of a Ford Mustang died early Thursday following a freeway crash that involved four vehicles and blocked every lane, the California Highway Patrol said. The pileup happened on eastbound Interstate 580 just west of First Street, according to the CHP. It was reported at 3:31 a.m. Authorities did not identify the dead person, pending notification of family. The Mustang was initially involved in a crash with a Ford F-350 pickup truck.

Federal traffic investigators said Thursday that unsafe driving speeds of multiple vehicles on wet roads in low visibility was the probable cause of a fiery 2021 crash on Interstate 65 in Butler County that killed nine children and one adult. The National Transportation Safety Board released a report about the June 19, 2021 crash that involved 10 passenger vehicles and two commercial trucks. The report described a horrific chain of events as the trucks and an SUV slammed into cars that had slowed because of minor crashes on the rain-slick highway.

SOUTHINGTON — A Wolcott tractor trailer driver was seriously injured Wednesday morning after, state police said, he lost control of his truck and collided with another truck parked off the side of the highway. The collision was reported a little before 10 a.m. on Interstate 84. State police said the Wolcott driver was driving in the eastbound lanes when “for an unknown reason,” he lost control of the Freightliner. The truck traveled from the center lane across the highway, right shoulder and rest area off-ramp before colliding with a Kenworth T660 tractor trailer parked in the right shoulder of the Southington rest area off-ramp, state police said.

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) - A 25-year old Bradenton woman was hit and killed Monday afternoon by a car after she got out of her disabled vehicle on I-75, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Investigators say the woman’s vehicle was stopped in the far right southbound lane of I-75 at mile marker 214, between University Parkway and State Road 70 at about 4:30 p.m., after a mechanical issue. The woman, who has not yet been been identified by troopers, got out of the vehicle and was standing near the sedan with the driver’s door open.

A 56-year-old woman previously reported missing died after veering off a highway, Louisiana police said. St. Martinville resident Connie Bourque was reported missing on May 19 and involved in a fatal crash around 12:30 p.m. on May 21, Louisiana State Police said in a news release. Bourque was heading east along Louisiana Highway 352 in St. Martin Parish when she veered off the road to the right for unknown reasons, the release said.

Police do not plan issue citations to a driver who abandoned a vehicle on a Louisiana interstate shoulder over the weekend, leading to a fiery crash that claimed the life of a truck driver. The crash occurred on May 20 in Lafayette, Louisiana. Fifty-seven year old Texas-based truck driver Mariano Gonzalez was traveling north on I-49 when he struck an unoccupied vehicle on the shoulder, causing the truck to leave the interstate.

The Cowlitz 2 Fire and Rescue and the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office said the 56-year-old was found alive inside a truck at the bottom of a ravine. He’s now being treated at Southwest Washington Medical Center for his injuries. First responders said they received a 911 call May 21 after locals spotted tire tracks leaving the roadway and a small green truck at the bottom of a ravine.

One woman who witnessed the accident jumped into action, as her husband’s car went up in flames right in front of her. Malissa Travis Crews was driving behind her husband, Jeremy, at 4:20 a.m. Sunday on Interstate 70 when his car crashed into a car stopped without lights. She had seconds to brake, hitting his car, KMOV reports.
