Former Miss Waco stopped to help crash victims and became a victim herself
WACO, Texas (KWTX) – After nearly two months of treatment and therapy, things are looking up for former Miss Waco Jamie Blanek, who was critically injured on the night of Feb. 6 when she was struck after she stopped to help victims of a crash at Chapel Road and Old Lorena Road west of Hewitt where a Jeep had collided with a Chevrolet Sonic whose driver failed to yield the right of way, according to Department of Public Safety reports.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK - A Baltimore man’s Tesla was destroyed Monday after the vehicle crashed into a tractor-trailer on Route 1, shearing off the passenger’s side of the roof. The driver suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention, police said. Near Route 1 and Executive Drive, Officer Brian Kim investigated and determined the driver was distracted at the time of the 8:20 a.m. Monday crash, police said.According to Kim’s investigation, the 2020 Tesla was traveling north on Route 1 in the right lane.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — A 17-year-old from Chesnee died Monday night while standing outside a truck attaching a tow strap to an RTV, according to the Spartanburg County coroner.Jordan Phillips was pronounced dead just after 9 p.m., Rusty Clevenger said. Trooper Joe Hovis said Phillips was standing between the RTV and the pickup truck while the truck was stopped on Peachtree Road. A car traveling north hit the RTV from behind causing it to hit Phillips then the pickup truck, Hovis said.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - An 18-year-old man from Hays died from his injuries after being hit by a tractor-trailer late Tuesday morning in Jewell County in north central Kansas. The Kansas Highway Patrol said in the crash reported about 10:38 a.m., a Volvo tractor-trailer was traveling west on U.S. 36 and 18-year-old Gabriel Rupp was near the roadway on the north shoulder of the highway, loading traffic control equipment into a trailer, which was in the roadway.

SANFORD, Fla. — Two people are dead following a hit-and-run in Sanford, according to police. Officers around 1 p.m. responded to a call of a crash between a car and a motorcycle on State Road 46 near Summerlin Avenue. The car involved fled the scene, according to police.A good Samaritan stopped to render aid to the motorcyclist. That’s when another vehicle traveling westbound on State Road 46 crossed over the median and struck the good Samaritan and motorcyclist, killing both of them.

GREENSBORO, NC, (March 26, 2021) - Authorities identified a 34-year-old man fatally struck by a tractor-trailer on Interstate-85 near Groometown Road Friday. N.C. State Highway Patrol said the victim – William Curtis Walker, III of Gibsonville – died at the scene.Investigators said Walker was driving a 2019 Chevrolet passenger when, for reasons undetermined, he crashed it into a guardrail after midnight Friday. Following the initial incident, Walker was then hit by a northbound traveling 2003 Kenworth tractor-trailer.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – A pedestrian who was run over and killed at the Katy Freeway and Fry Road intersection was a good Samaritan trying to help another driver, police say. Houston police say the victim witnessed a pickup truck run off the freeway and hit a tree around 6 a.m. Friday.When he got out of his vehicle to check on that driver, he was run over by another car.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A man was hit and killed by a car on Interstate 25 in Colorado Springs Thursday night, according to police. Police said the crash happened around 11 p.m. on northbound Interstate 25 near Cimarron Street. Police said a car was stopped in the roadway, and one of the occupants was outside of it. Another car hit both the stopped car and the person. The victim died on the scene.

The telephone suddenly cut off as Linda Armstrong tried to console her distraught daughter who was in tears because her sedan clipped a guard rail as she drove home from work.

A 56-year-old Jacksonville man was killed in a two-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning on I-95, south of County Road 210 in St. Johns County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. FHP said preliminary indications show the sedan he was driving was either traveling very slowly or was stopped in the center lane of I-95 northbound at around 2:20 a.m. when it was rear-ended by a tractor trailer. The sedan ran off the roadway to the left shoulder and collided with the guardrail, causing it to continue traveling north, the FHP report stated.
