Woman wrecks to avoid cyclist, is hit by another car when she exits vehicle, TX cops say
A Texas woman is hospitalized in critical condition after being struck by a hit-and-run driver, moments after she crashed along a highway, according to the San Antonio Police Department. The 30-year-old was driving along Interstate Highway 35 around 3 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, when she swerved to avoid hitting a bicyclist, according to an SAPD news release. She apparently lost control and crashed into a guardrail on the left side of the road.

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 72-year-old Orlando man was hit and killed on Interstate 4 early Sunday morning after he exited his vehicle following a prior crash near mile marker 118 in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said the incident began at 1:57 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-4 near State Road 44 after the front left tire of man’s Ford Explorer blew, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and strike the inside guardrail.

Nova Scotia RCMP say they’re investigating a hit-and-run involving a transport truck on a highway in Smith’s Cove. Police say around 10 p.m. on Friday night, on Highway 101, a Dodge Caravan pulled over on the shoulder of the road. The driver opened the door of the caravan to switch seats with a passenger when a transport truck hit the open door. RCMP say the caravan driver sustained “non-life-threatening injuries,” but the transport truck failed to stop.

A woman was hit and killed by a truck early Saturday morning while standing outside her car by the side of Route 140 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, according authorities. The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, when the victim pulled over her Toyota Avalon by the side of Route 140 North, and was apparently outside her car, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office. Authorities aren’t sure why she was outside the car.

A Cleveland man reported missing earlier this week in White County has been found dead. On Friday, authorities discovered the body of 50-year-old Jeffrey McKenna inside his wrecked pickup truck on Highway 75 north of Cleveland. He had been missing since Tuesday. McKenna’s vehicle was located a short distance off the highway. Officials say the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado apparently left the road, struck an embankment, and overturned onto its top in a ditch.

A pedestrian helping a disabled motorist was struck and killed Thursday night in Virginia Beach. Virginia Beach police responded to a report of a car crash involving a pedestrian just before 10 p.m. in the 6000 block of Indian River Road. Virginia Beach resident Juan Ocasio Encarnacion, 55, was injured in the crash. He was transported to a local hospital where he died. According to a department press release, a disabled vehicle was stopped in a turn lane with the hood up and emergency flashers on.

BIGGS JUNCTION, Ore. — A pedestrian was hit and killed by a driver on Interstate 84 just east of The Dalles early Friday morning. Around 9 a.m. on Aug. 19, an Oregon State Police trooper found the pedestrian dead on the westbound lanes of the interstate near milepost 89. According to a preliminary investigation, a driver hit the pedestrian sometime between 4 a.m. to 5:20 a.m. Troopers located a vehicle in the area belonging to the pedestrian.

Two people who went missing in Northern California on the same day as Kiely Rodni have been found dead, according to police. The bodies of Janette ‘JJ’ Pantoja, 29, and her ex-boyfriend Juan Almanza Zavala, 36, were found Wednesday outside of a vehicle that had crashed down an embankment in Nevada County, California, the Nevada County Sheriff’s Department confirmed. Zavala was tentatively identified due to the nature of his injuries, the sheriff’s office said.

TAMPA, Fla. — Law enforcement shut down the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 near Bruce B Downs Boulevard Thursday morning following a deadly crash. The crash happened around 8:24 a.m. and involved multiple vehicles, including a flatbed tractor-trailer, a sedan, two SUVs and two commercial vehicles transporting mobile homes, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers say a 26-year-old man from Shreve, Ohio, was killed while several others suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Donley County, TX – July 28, 2022, a Clarendon man was injured following an accident where an 18-wheeler struck him along US 287. Officials said that the crash took place at around 6:08 p.m. along US 287 near mile marker 170. According to investigations, a 47-year-old Clarendon man was along the side of the highway next to a disabled vehicle. Police say that a passing 18-wheeler went onto the shoulder, hitting the Clarendon man.
