Highway Patrol: Chain-reaction crash causes 16-vehicle pileup near Peter Guice Bridge
HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — At approximately 7:45 a.m. on March 17, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said a truck carrying traffic cones hit a bump on Interstate 26, which caused the cones to fall onto the road. A tractor-trailer behind it slowed down trying to avoid the cones and hit another vehicle. After they both came to a stop, several other vehicles hit each other in a chain-reaction accident.

Gray County, TX — March 14, 2025, William McKaig and Richene McKaig were killed in a truck accident at about 11:40 a.m. on eastbound Interstate 40. Authorities said a 2018 Kia Soul crashed into the back of a disabled 2014 Kenworth semi-truck that had been involved in an earlier accident as dirt and smoke from a nearby wildfire limited visibility. The Kia subsequently was rear-ended by a 2018 Freightliner semi-truck.

SULLIVAN — A minor was killed early Monday morning in Jefferson County when they walked in front of a semi. According to police, the minor was an occupant in a vehicle that ended up in the south ditch area of I-94 eastbound near Sullivan around 1:33 a.m. Monday. The minor got out of the vehicle and walked onto the roadway, where they were struck and killed by a semi-truck and trailer.

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The driver of an 18-wheeler was struck and killed Monday morning on the Don Holt Bridge. Officers with the North Charleston Police Department responded to the eastbound lanes of the Don Holt Bridge around 7:45 a.m., where they learned that the driver of a disabled tractor-trailer “stepped off or fell backward” off the step of the driver’s side door of his truck. He was then struck by a vehicle that fled the scene, officials said.

GOODLAND, Kan. (KSNW) — The Kansas Highway Patrol confirmed that at least eight people are dead after a pileup on Interstate 70 near Goodland on Friday. The crash involved more than 70 vehicles. After more than 24 hours, both west and eastbound lanes of I-70 between Colby and Goodland are now open. After coordinated efforts from nearly every surrounding town and county, the area is largely recovered from what officials call an unprecedented scene.

WILLIAMS, Ariz. — Two people died in a crash involving 22 vehicles near Williams on Thursday. A fire caused by the crash burned for more than 12 hours, according to ADOT officials. DPS identified the victims as Juan Beltran Sanchez of Chino Valley and Evelyn Davis of Ganado. The roadway was covered in snow and ice when the crash happened, according to DPS. 13 passenger cars, five commercial vehicles and five “unattached trailers” were involved in the fiery crash.

A Florida woman died last week on the way home from her birthday dinner after she was hit by an SUV while trying to help a dog on the side of the road, authorities reportedly said. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported that the 25-year-old Tampa resident was killed around 10:30 p.m. local time on Thursday, March 13, after she got out of her vehicle to help a dog she spotted along the side of the road, per NBC affiliate WFLA, Fox affiliate KSTU and The Tampa Bay Times.

SPANISH FORK, Utah — A woman is in the hospital after being hit by a passing car on I-15 while she was out of her vehicle checking on someone in a separate crash. Utah Highway Patrol said around 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, a southbound vehicle hit the barrier near Spanish Fork. They said the weather conditions may have contributed to the crash. A driver stopped to check on the driver of the first vehicle.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – Investigators are looking into a multi-vehicle crash that left an 18-year-old dead and several others in the hospital Thursday morning. The wreck, reported at about 6 a.m. on Houston TranStar, blocked several lanes of IH-69 Southwest Freeway southbound at Fountain View Drive. The vehicles and the investigation were finally cleared and the lanes were reopened as of 11:30 a.m. According to the Houston Police Department, the driver of a white Ford Expedition had a flat tire and stopped in a moving lane of traffic along the freeway.

A 41-year-old mother of three was found alive in her wrecked car in Indiana after being trapped for six days, authorities said. A man was operating equipment for a drainage and excavation company on Tuesday when he spotted a car off a roadway, out of view from passing traffic, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office said. He called his supervisor, Jeremy Vanderwall, who’s an assistant chief at a local volunteer fire department, and the two checked the car and found Brieonna Cassell inside, the sheriff’s office said.
